Hello, lovely crafters! Welcome to our daily check-in post, where you can tell everybody all about your most recent progress (or lack thereof). Feel free to also chat with other members and generally enjoy yourself!

Check-in is not compulsory, you decide if and when to take part in these posts.

Today's optional question:
Is there any craft you tried out thinking you'd enjoy it, only to find out you don't? Or the other way around, is there a craft you tried for some reason, thinking it'd be a one-time thing, but that turned out to be something enjoyable?

If you have questions or suggestions about the community, requests for tags, or want to host the daily check-in posts, head over to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment there.

Yay for rediscovering crochet pleasure!

I didn't think I'd enjoy diamond painting as much as I do--now I'm really into it. It's very relaxing for me in a different way than knitting or spinning.

I tried weaving but didn't enjoy that at all, even though I thought I'd love it. But nope. Also, needle felting--I stab myself way too much doing it.

You never know what you'll enjoy until you try it.

I've never tried diamond painting but I'm fascinated by the kits you see online. Any tips for the beginner?

My best sdvice is to buy the best kit you can afford. Similar to fiber related stuff, cheap doesn't always turn out the nicest. If you are US based, I highly recommend the canvases from Diamond Art Club (DiamondArtClub.com)--they are more expensive but also are amazing.

There's a lot of people you can watch on Youtube who do unboxings and reviews of canvases. I really enjoy watching Rambling Rose and Diamond Painting (that's her channel name), Mrs Crochet and Coffee, Rachel Rae, and WhitneyDiamondPaints. Rambling Rose and Diamond Painting gives really great reviews.

If you are looking on Amazon (or just on the web in general), Tinmi Arts, EverydayEDeals, and Fansells have good canvases.

Most importantly, pick a picture you really love!

Not that I remember.

I've been doing some knitting on my arm warmers today while loading files on my new mini thing, which I already hate. I can't download anything with this new version of windows, and posting is a sheer nightmare. As for microsoft office, I can't even find half of what I need. I don't know if I can use it to write either =(

Also still freezing.

Answer: I knitted a scarf about 25 years ago and never knitted anything else every again.

1. I started a new cross stitch for Christmas. Something smaller, but still using the Stitchtober pattern prompts. Edited to add: I found this 'close enough' converter for thread colors. The internet is beautiful thing. http://www.codyhoover.com/floss-color-tool/

2. I supervised my sons doing a 'build your own volcano' kit, and lent them my wee village which was swallowed up in the lava.

Aw, your poor little village, struck by disaster! Good luck with the cross stitch.

Not everyone likes knitting.

Thank you! I will post when it's all done.

Yes, I admire knitters a lot, but I never took to it. The women in my family are crocheters but I never even tried that.

You've found other crafts to enjoy. No need to follow family tradition.

I love it! I hope all the residents of the village escaped disaster.

I know, right? Run for you lives! The pink lava's coming!!

When I was seven, Grandma forced me to sit down and learn how to sew. I knew I'd hate it.

I still hate it. But I have to grudgingly confess that it's an extremely handy skill to have, and I'm reluctantly glad that she taught me. (Not as much fun as when she got me into s'mores and 'I Love Lucy', but you can't have everything.)

Also, does decorating for Christmas count as doing something crafty? Because Mom and I got started today. We have two trees, and one of them is baking-themed; it's already almost 100% done. Tomorrow, it's my job to set up and decorate the other one. Also, yesterday I redid my phone and laptop desktops to Christmas themes.

I hate sewing too, but I can re-attach buttons and turn up trousers by hand so it's useful. I don't mind sewing felt toys, but anything to do with sewing clothes I loathe.

Yay for Christmas decorations. I won't be having any, I still have no heat and I'm pretty miserable. Won't be sending cards overseas either, I can't afford to with the utter mess I'm in. Sorry =(

Don't worry about it. :) They always say it's the thought, after all. 💕

Yeah, I'm just so tired of everything right now, so cold I can't feel my feet or my fingers. I can't do laundry because I can't dry it, and I'm facing a massive expense to buy wood for the fire because I've been told the chimney is so clogged if I use the coal I already bought and paid for it'll block again.

Oh, geez. :( That really sucks. *warm hugsssss*

Thanks *hugs back* Things are not going well so far =(

Oh I love theme trees! They're so creative. What is the other tree?
Saturday, November 28th, 2020 08:54 pm (UTC)
The other is all our other ornaments; it's sort of a memory tree, since we always get ornaments for family members. :)
