Hello to all members, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

I mostly took today off because I overdid it the past two days and my wrist was hurting. I did, though, do one more row on the weaving and finished my crochet project. The latter was a test of a design I made, and it came out pretty well, I think. Though not exactly on size - it was supposed to be 6" square and the height was spot on, but the width started at 6" but then went to 7" so I either accidentally added stitches or loosened up gauge (i'm thinking the latter). Oh well, it was just a test so that's okay.

Does writing count as a craft for this community? I wrote some fanfic for a friend tonight. She could use something nice, and it featured my beloved Alisaie (who's in my icon) so it was fun to write.

Oh, I know how that goes. I have very weak wrists and have to be careful. I once injured my wrist reading a book and it was out of action for weeks. Hope yours feels better quickly.

Hopefully you'll figure out the problem with your crochet square so that the next attempt will actually come out square.

Everything creative counts! Many of us are fanfic writers as well.

So am I! The last (and so far only) time I weaved anything was in pre-school - I kid you not! I made a doll's rug of some leftover knitting thread Mum originally made me sweaters of.

So far it's been fun! but I think it's what aggravated my wrist. Since I'm sooo new to it, I've been squeezing the needle pretty hard. Need to practice loosening up on my grip!

I've also tried tablet weaving in the past, but didn't have much success. I don't own a proper loom such as an inkle loom, so I was trying to do it backstrap style, with the warp tied between my belt and bedpost. Couldn't keep enough tension on the warp, and the cards fell, alas. Someday when I have more money I'll buy an inkle loom, because I'm fascinated with the bands you can make with tablet weaving.

If you want to get started weaving but don't want to break the bank, I can recommend starting with a pin loom. The Schacht Zoom Loom runs about US$40, but you can go even cheaper and buy one of those potholder looms they sell for kids at craft stores. Margaret Stump wrote a few books about pin looming; her website is: http://www.pinloomweaving.com and I've just read her book Pin Loom Weaving to Go: 30 Projects for Portable Weaving which has projects for 2x2 inch pin looms, 4x4 inch pin looms, potholder looms, and adjustable sock knitting looms. I borrowed the ebook from my library but I might end up buying it eventually, it's got some good info in it.

Writing definitely counts in my eyes! Next month I won't be doing anything else, as picowrimo will be in session... or so I hope. One never knows who's gonna show up for the party.
