Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?
There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.
Today's Question: No question today.
If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.
I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

I have other things started that I should finish, namely two part-knitted black sweaters and an almost complete sleeveless white summer top (just need to knit the armbands and sew it up), but I want to start the fuchsia sweater.
The pattern I've picked out is cables, blackberry stitch, and some lace. Raglan sleeves rather than the drop shoulders of the last one. But each sleeve has different shaping at the top so I'll have to remember not to make them both the same =/

Pictures of both are on yesterday's post here: https://get-knitted.dreamwidth.org/61293.html?thread=1104237#cmt1104237
The red one wasn't quite finished then, I still had side and sleeve seams to sew up, but it took me forever to get a photo where the pattern actually showed up so I'm not going to try again. Red is really hard to photograph.

Thanks! And yes, it really is as soft as it looks.

The main thing is that I've started painting up a backgammon board, and I'll be doing an LJ post on that soonish also. I'm woefully behind in my posts there by about a week and I have several posts to make. I can't remember if I already mentioned the Virtual Booksellers fair with my Australian distributor, but that was super cool and I need to post about that too. Sunday just gone, the daggued hood I was working on was finally finished and went to it's owner and he was delighted with it. I took a series of photos of our knights at training on Sunday which cut into my sewing time and for anyone who likes knights, it's on fb and I can put up a link if anyone wants to see them. We are going to take new pics and make a calender just for group members and their families for fun.
Quite frankly, I'm exhausted.

Looking forward to seeing all your posts so I hope you'll put links here so we can all check out the finished articles and the processes involved in making them.
Hemming does sound like a wise precaution and hopefully it won't be a big job.
Not surprised you're exhausted!

I had to download my sweater photos to my barely working laptop, then put them on a USB stick to transfer them to this mini laptop because I was afraid the laptop might decide to reformat the memory card in the camera or something stupid and lose all the photos on it. (I am not a tech genius).
Looking forward to seeing everything when you have time to get the posts written and up.

Crafting by Proxy
Re: Crafting by Proxy
I used to make macrame hangers myself. Still got the patterns and some jute.

Does writing count as a craft for this community? I wrote some fanfic for a friend tonight. She could use something nice, and it featured my beloved Alisaie (who's in my icon) so it was fun to write.

Hopefully you'll figure out the problem with your crochet square so that the next attempt will actually come out square.
Everything creative counts! Many of us are fanfic writers as well.

I've also tried tablet weaving in the past, but didn't have much success. I don't own a proper loom such as an inkle loom, so I was trying to do it backstrap style, with the warp tied between my belt and bedpost. Couldn't keep enough tension on the warp, and the cards fell, alas. Someday when I have more money I'll buy an inkle loom, because I'm fascinated with the bands you can make with tablet weaving.
If you want to get started weaving but don't want to break the bank, I can recommend starting with a pin loom. The Schacht Zoom Loom runs about US$40, but you can go even cheaper and buy one of those potholder looms they sell for kids at craft stores. Margaret Stump wrote a few books about pin looming; her website is: http://www.pinloomweaving.com and I've just read her book Pin Loom Weaving to Go: 30 Projects for Portable Weaving which has projects for 2x2 inch pin looms, 4x4 inch pin looms, potholder looms, and adjustable sock knitting looms. I borrowed the ebook from my library but I might end up buying it eventually, it's got some good info in it.
