Hello, lovely crafters! Welcome to our daily check-in post, where you can tell everybody all about your most recent progress (or lack thereof). Feel free to also chat with other members and generally enjoy yourself!

Check-in is not compulsory, you decide if and when to take part in these posts.

And for the optional questions, I will recycle the ones I used three years ago, and see how the answers have changed!
What time of the day do you usually work on your crafty projects?

If you have questions or suggestions about the community, requests for tags, or want to host the daily check-in posts, head over to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment there.

Hi! I've not been active here for a while, but I have certainly been knitting away. I had a Talvinen [note: links to Ravelry] to finish in time to pack it off to Devon for my niece, completed last week. Now I'm doing an asymmetric scarf with the leftover yarn.

Evenings are nice, to settle in front of something cosy on the telly—currently David Suchet as Hercule Poirot—but on Thursdays, when I am out in the evening, I often sneak an hour or two of knitting in the afternoon.

What a gorgeous sweater! Did you use the same colours, or something different?

Good luck with the scarf!

I've just put it up on my Ravelry account, here. Very happy with how it turned out - the wings look so lovely!

Unfortunately, Ravelry won't let me view the pic without signing in and I've lost my password. I'm sure it's lovely though =)

You have been very busy! Good luck with the scarf.

That does sound like a nice quiet time.

I have just (tonight) finished the scarf, but it is going to have to wait a while for blocking.

Very nice!

Hello, and thank you for hosting this week! I might even be able to get my Christmas preparations finished.

I usually craft in the evenings while watching TV, but sometimes in the afternoon during summer when I don't have the fire to deal with and I can work in natural light.

Haven't done any crafting yet, but hoping to continue the arm warmers for my neighbour in a bit. I've had crafty adventures though, which took up the whole morning and into the afternoon.

I cycled down to the craft shop that was closing down, only to find it already closed for good. Went on into town to go to a shop I didn't have time to visit last time, then went home. On a whim I called the craft shop when I got in and the people were there, packing up. They still had some of the card I wanted though, so the lady said I could go down and knock on the door and she'd let me in. So I walked down in the drizzle, bought all the rest of the silver glitter card they had (71 sheets) all the blue (19), 5 black, the last of the red mirror card and copper card. Also bought all the brooch backs they had - got 328 for £10! Plus, a load of beads, 6 rolls of clear adhesive film, and a few silver beads. That phone call was well worth making! I got bargains at knock-down prices.

That was quite the booty! Well worth walking through the drizzle. Now you are covered for any card-making activities for a while. :)

Among other things. I'm glad I called the shop. Now I have lots of card to cut out pretty things!
Monday, December 18th, 2023 06:42 pm (UTC)
Ooh what an amazing haul! A very lucrative phone call.
Monday, December 18th, 2023 07:20 pm (UTC)
It really was! Last time I was there it was only 25% off and I only got 5 sheets of the silver card. I wanted more but I'd already spent a lot ion other things. This time, I got 113 sheets of A4 card for a tenner. Doesn't get much better than that!
Monday, December 18th, 2023 07:55 pm (UTC)
Wowee, what a haul!
Monday, December 18th, 2023 10:11 pm (UTC)
Spent more than I should have, but it was worth it. It was even worth my legs, back, and arms hurting for the next few days from walking and carrying heavy stuff. The glitter card is gorgeous, it's not that really flashy stuff you can get, it's more subtle and not all gritty with bits coming off. Real quality. And the brooch backs... original price was 50p for a pack of two, 99p for a pack of four. I shudder to think... Um, I just worked it out, at full price they would have cost me £81.57. My mind is boggling!
Tuesday, December 19th, 2023 08:53 am (UTC)
That was quite a haul! Well done!
Tuesday, December 19th, 2023 11:32 am (UTC)
Thank you! I was very happy!
Tuesday, December 19th, 2023 06:21 pm (UTC)
And it was heavy hauling it home! Made me regret walking instead of getting my bike out again. I made it home safely though.

Hello! After my triumphant beach cover-up row a few days ago I haven't done more crafting because I'm swamped with the day job; this past weekend my brain was so fried I accomplished absolutely nothing, which was rather upsetting. But term ends on Thursday so hopefully I will have my brain back soon!

As for time of the day - if I'm off work, usually in the afternoon, but if I manage to sneak in some crafting on a work day, it'll be in the evening.
Monday, December 18th, 2023 07:22 pm (UTC)
Sorry work's being so hard on you. May you find your crafting brain soon.
Tuesday, December 19th, 2023 08:56 am (UTC)
Hope your brain gets the rest it needs!

I usually craft in the morning, right after I had readied Mum for the day. That doesn't leave me much time - and hour and a half at best - but both sewing and paper crafts are best done by natural light, not only for the better visibility but also for the true colours.

Today, I worked some more on the new front page for the Christmas quiet book (that won't be done for *this* Christmas, mind you): I did most of the Velcro work, sewn down the floor line and finished the double-layered Christmas tree. Not much, I know, but since I postponed the deadline for *next* Christmas, I can take my time and actually enjoy the work.

I also went to one of the big craft shops today, but it was quite the disappointment: they had more ready-made gifts than actual stuff for crafting, so I left empty-handed.
Monday, December 18th, 2023 07:23 pm (UTC)
So sorry your craft shopping was disappointing, but yay for Quiet Book progress!
Tuesday, December 19th, 2023 07:09 pm (UTC)
You'd think they would sell the Christmas-related stuff for a reduced price in the week before Christmas, but apparently that has gone out of practice.
Tuesday, December 19th, 2023 08:07 pm (UTC)
Sadly that doesn't seem to happen these days, you have to wait until after Christmas for bargains, if anything is left.
Tuesday, December 19th, 2023 08:58 am (UTC)
Sounds like the quiet book is coming along.

Sorry the craft shop was disappointing.
Tuesday, December 19th, 2023 07:10 pm (UTC)
They all were in the recent days. :(

But yeah, the book is coming along. Especially as I don't have to hurry; it's definitely more fun that way.
Thursday, December 21st, 2023 09:48 am (UTC)
:(

it's definitely more fun that way. That's the important part

I usually craft in the evening after my munchkin has gone to bed, however in the current Baby Blanket Emergency (parents-to-be visiting for New Years), I've been crafting pretty much whenever I can. Zoom meetings, waiting for everyone to settle down to a meal, the pantomime, Christmas parties...

Anyway, the yarn for Baby Blanket #1 arrived on Wednesday and I haven't posted here in a few days, but that's where all my energy is at right now!
Monday, December 18th, 2023 07:24 pm (UTC)
Woohoo! Have fun knitting the blanket, the chevron pattern looked so much fun!
Tuesday, December 19th, 2023 08:59 am (UTC)
Hurray for yarn! Happy knitting!
Tuesday, December 19th, 2023 08:50 am (UTC)
Super high anxiety day, so no crafting.

As for the optional question, I tend to work on them in the middle of the night, as that's when I am most awake and there are fewer demands on my attention.
Tuesday, December 19th, 2023 06:22 pm (UTC)
*hugs* Hope you're doing better now.
Thursday, December 21st, 2023 09:49 am (UTC)
Thank you *hugs*
