Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY TO ALL WHO CELEBRATE IT!

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

Nice progress. What are you going to background-watch?

... seven more to go. Until September, that is, after which I'll do the same thing again. At least the other book doesn't have the deadline.

So, folks, here I present Page One, where the three crows are cutting the wheat:

Admittedly, the crows look a bit bizarre, being finger puppets and all, but I like them. Today I added all the yellow parts, both for this page and for Page Two. I think the colours are not bad at all, even though I'd prefer the blue background to be several shades paler. But I have to use the felt that's available in the craft shop.

It's only about 2pm here but so far today I have knit a row on a shawl that I started a year ago, but that was languishing unfinished. It's Stephen West's "Glacier Sweep" which is going to be H-U-G-E when done. Attempting to finish it this month for Nerdopolis' Area 51. I think I can do it if I work a row or two a day.

I also worked on the crocheted shawl for another Nerdopolis challenge - the theme is Boats and the pattern I picked makes a right triangle, like the main sail on a sail boat.

I plan more crafting today but right now I'm going to take a video game break.

I did a gauge swatch & measured my feet for the socks I'm making with the yarn I talked about yesterday. I used Judy's Magic Cast On, which is new to me. But I got it on the second try.

I'm now working on the hem of the bralette. It needs to be about 2 in long and it's not quite an 1 in now. I should finish it soon. :)

I've been working through some of my yarn stash. Ignoring the Sockening blanket, the sock on needles, and the "failed" colour pooling crochet blanket (it's a blanket - it will still keep me warm, I just didn't follow the directions so the colors don't pool - also, swatching is very important in crocheting).

I have cast on some Dishie yarn (Knit Picks). I was going to be making coasters, but I wound up making a blanket instead (I really like how the yarn feels). I have 3 skeins left, and then this blanket will be done. I started on Saturday. Blanket will be 7 skeins total.

You're making such quick progress on that blanket!

Realised I accidentally switched a k2tog and an skp but I'm not upset enough about it to fix it. Looking at it, I can tell where the mistake is but only if I'm really zeroing in on it, so I think it'll be fine. Otherwise, the beach cover-up is progressing well! It's finally got to the point that it looks like something which always makes me feel great. I've finished through row 24 of 33 on the first part A section, of which there will be 2. I may or may not have time to do more tomorrow, but if not then, likely Thursday.

Today, I had a bit of squirrel brain, so while I cleaned off the craft table, no crafting got done. In fact, the only things on my todo list I got done was putting the laundry away and babysitting the cat while the fireworks were going. She seems to be losing her hearing, so she slept through most of it, but she was less than happy for the parts of it she was awake for.

Yesterday, I did add a couple more rows to the shawl. I am beginning to wonder if I'm going to have enough yarn to finish. It's supposed to be a one skein project and the pattern itself came with said skein of yarn and it gauged correctly, but it just doesn't look like enough yarn to make it to the end. Trying to trust the process though.

Laundry and taking care of the cat are important things! And cleaning off the craft table is always a good thing to do.

Fingers crossed the shawl turns out!
