Made some more progress on the hedge and picked up leaves. If I wasn't doing that every day or two, the path would be buried under a thick layer of wet leaves by now. I'll be glad when the laurel is gone so I don't have the leaves to deal with. I'm tempted to pull off all the leaves I can reach.

How much do you have to do before the tree people can come in? That constant picking up, ugh.

I don't really HAVE to do any of it, they're great guys and will work around anything that's in the way, I'm sure most people don't bother, but my garden is a mess, and I work on a section each year, trying to get it under control, so I picked this section to make things simpler for everyone. It needed doing so why not? Now I'm just continuing what I've started. Parts of the hedge are almost 10ft tall. Last year I cleared the ivy off the banking so I could get to the hedge, now I'm tackling the parts that are growing through the trees I want removing. Might as well.

Picking up the leaves isn't too bad, laurel leaves are big, about 4 inches long and 2 wide, and doing it every day means there aren't too many so it only takes about 5 minutes. I don't want the path going back to how it was, covered in rotting leaves, soil, roots... I've got it looking nice and I'd like to keep it that way.

No, I booked them a few weeks ago so they're due Friday. I got the quote earlier this year at the same time as I got a quote for pruning the apple tree and getting rid of a sapling. At the time, the guy said the rose that was growing through the juniper might pose a problem - I think he meant in terms of getting the tree down without harming the rose - but it's not an important rose, and there was way too much of it anyway, so I just cut the stems going into the tree and dragged the rose out. Problem solved *grins* It needed cutting back again anyway, I chopped half of it down a couple of years ago when I was having the big conifer removed.

Oh! Friday, great. Even though picking up the leaves isn't that bad, it's one less thing. Certainly sounds like the kind of rose that won't care you cut it back!

I've decided to cut off buds from the hybrid tea roses for the rest of the year. And maybe suppress next year's as well. I want especially the Peace rose to make more canes, and to see if the scrawniest little one will bounce back. So no spending energy on blooms.

The rose is a completely out of control rambler. It will most likely survive.

Sounds a good plan to encourage more and sturdier growth.
