Check-In Post December 8th 2020
Hello to all members, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.
Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?
There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.
Today's Question: Have you ever taken classes, either to improve your crafting or to try out something new?
If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.
I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

I have taken crochet lessons, knitting lessons, spinning lessons, and shuttle tatting and bobbin lace classes. The crochet and knitting lessons were informal, from kind neighbors. The spinning, shuttle tatting, and bobbin lace classes were all at the craft store down the street from my office and quite formal affairs. I taught myself needle tatting.
I also took a workshop on illusion knitting, which was pretty cool.
I should finish that scarf sometime...

|Wow, that's a lot of classes. So cool that the craft store does classes.
I've not heard of illusion knitting. Now I'm curious!

More cross stitch. I think I'll do 2 more squares and call it done.

You're steaming along with the cross stitch squares!

After not being able to craft for a few days I got the first headband finished tonight. Behind schedule. Hope to knock the other out tomorrow, I'm going to hold two threads together to make it go faster.

Courses are great! I don't care about qualifications, but I like the social angle and also the fact that I've gone somewhere specifically to work on whatever it is for several hours without being interrupted! I have taken wood-carving classes in the past, and more recently, painting classes. Both tutors were really expert craftsmen in their field and I learned so much from them. It's also really handy to have guidance in what tools and equipment are really essential and what's less important, because I could cheerfully spend far more than I own on supplies :-D

Yes, it's great to learn from someone who really knows what they're doing. It's all too easy to spend too much on non-essentials.
I'd love to try woodcarving but I'd be scared for my fingers!
Hope the move goes smoothly.
