Hello to all members, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

Today's Question: No question today.

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

You know you'll get up at 6 and the shed will arrive at 10.30. Glad that you still managed the 12 sweater rows, despite SCD being on.

I've realised I've made a small mistake in the pattern of my current throw square (used the wrong colour), but I'm not going back. I'll Swiss darn over it, and it's not as if anyone but me will notice. This is what happens when you take a two colour pattern and make it multi-colour!

I managed to get my cat off my lap long enough to add some rows to the scarf for my sister \o/

Yes, it won't be perfect, but then it really doesn't need to be.

Poor cat! Although it sounds like it was only a temporary arrangement.

I finally finished with all the ends of a blanket I made of granny squares, and I gifted it to my niece. Now I have to get back to my own knitting project, while also sowing another granny square blanket all together.

He decided the floor in front of the heater was a better option! And yes. Almost done with the scarf now. In time for the cold!

Luckily it's cold enough where I am and the landlord pays my heat that I've my heat on already - the cat decided the floor in front of the heater was a better option, lol.

Did you have to camp out on the doorstep waiting for it so they couldn't get away with not delivering?

Wow! Early start for the shed delivery - hope all goes smoothly with that one (particularly given the need for such an early start). Well done on sweater and arm warmer progress.

Shame about the error but at least you already have a plan in place to compensate
Sunday, October 3rd, 2021 08:49 am (UTC)
Well done for progress on the scarf and I'm sure the cat will forgive you - if only on its own terms!
Sunday, October 3rd, 2021 08:50 am (UTC)
Well done - dealing with all the ends when you've made squares can be tedious, but I'm sure your niece will be pleased with the end result. Have fun with the knitting project.

Trip to the craft shop was frustrating - big gap in the display of tapestry wools round the colours I was looking for so limited choice, unhelpful staff (I don't mind the answer 'I don't know if/when more stock will arrive' when it's delivered courteously -'nuff said on that and we won't get to the comments to me about people 'overreacting to possibility of' catching Covid while I was standing there in a mask), bought a similarish colour and now have a decision to make - do I go with the newly bought colour which means unpicking some of what I've done or do I wait till end of the month and see if I can get something closer when I go to UK. My problem is I don't know what colour it is in terms of anchor number as it's lost its cover so no possibility of ordering online for this one.

As I left in the rain and a bit of a grumpy mood (quite a lot of one but not just due to experience in there), I thought of somewhere else I could try, so walked all the way to the other possibility in the increasing rain only to get there as they locked the door and flipped the closed sign over so I still don't know if they even sell tapestry wool.

I was not in the mood to craft by the evening - but sulked in front of the TV for a while instead - kidding about the sulking but not the lack of crafting. I actually spent a bit of time searching the lovecrafts website.

It's not worth the hassle to unpick it, so a slightly bodge job will do.
Sunday, October 3rd, 2021 11:28 am (UTC)
Tidying up all the ends seems to take ages, but glad you've got it done. Enjoy your own project :)
Sunday, October 3rd, 2021 11:31 am (UTC)
Very frustrating! And the colours shown online don't always match the actual colours due to screens etc. I hope you can find what you're after.

I've pinned together the fabric for a cherry stone pillow I intend to sew as an in-between project. Does it count?

Finding the right colour for anything can be a real pain. Especially if the staff is unhelpful. I don't know if someo e doesn't like to deal with people why don't they choose a job where they won't have to!
Sunday, October 3rd, 2021 11:55 am (UTC)
How clever of you, staying in the outside so that they simply had to give you that which is yours! ;))

They are very versatile. If heated in the microwave or in the oven (or simply kept on the heating for a while) they're very good for rheumatic pain or the likes. If kept in the freezer for a couple of hours, they're very good for insect bites or inflamed body parts. I used one after my arm got swollen and inflamed after the second Covid jab and it brought everything down within the week.

Basically, they're used as cold or warm packs. And since they are only loosely filled, they can adapt to the shape of the body part nicely. I kept mine under the sleeve of my t-shirt for 15 minutes a time and it remained on my upper arm without sliding down.

This is my first time commenting. I'm new to Dreamwidth and am searching for crafting communities :)

I'm about 3/4 of the way through Jared Flood's Guernsey Wrap. I'm making it with fingering weight yarn so it's a bit smaller than the pattern description. That's fine though - it's plenty big as it is! I'm using a soft and drapey 75% cotton, 25% wool.

Ooh, I didn't know you could use cherry stones like that! My husband goes through bags of cherries so I'll have to remember that :)
Sunday, October 3rd, 2021 07:25 pm (UTC)
They are very practical and easy to make. I made quite a few for last years' Christmas fair, which then got cancelled, and am now using up the remaining cherry stones.

Welcome to the club! I'm fairly new here myself, but I can tell you this is a very friendly group of people. :)
I'm not familiar with the craft you're working on, but it certainly sounds interesting.
Sunday, October 3rd, 2021 08:38 pm (UTC)
Thank you! And sorry, I should have clarified. It's a knitted scarf :)
Sunday, October 3rd, 2021 08:39 pm (UTC)
It's been great TV knitting. I'm working it in a pale gray. :)
Sunday, October 3rd, 2021 09:06 pm (UTC)
Thanks! He has - he realized that the heater is on!

I am always impressed with people who can just fix things later on. My aunt said this on a mistake I did, and my mind just baffels :D :D I don't even realize what I did wrong!
Monday, October 4th, 2021 06:46 pm (UTC)
Thanks! It is tedious, but my niece was happy she finally got the blanket, and I am glad to have that project out of both my mind and my house!
Monday, October 4th, 2021 06:48 pm (UTC)
I was surprised by how fast I got it done, I thought I would take forever as my patience with such things is not the best. I will :)
Monday, October 4th, 2021 06:50 pm (UTC)
Thank you :) I should work on the vest, I don't have much left, but I just feel meh and I am worried it will be to small for me too. But I have promised myself I will finish it, and that won't happen if I don't pick it bac up.
Monday, October 4th, 2021 06:55 pm (UTC)
I would probably have unpicked if it had been something important, but since it's only going on the bed, I'm not that concerned.
