Hello to all members, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

Today's Question: No question today.

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

I was looking after my niece for a little while yesterday evening and had a go at teaching her to crochet - thinking naively that we might get a square done before she had to go. Very foolish of me! In the end we gave up and I left her to do chain stitches - not a bad thing to practise holding the hook, both ends of the piece and working out how to wrap the yarn over. She was struggling with how I hold the hook and yarn so I googled youtube hoping for a method of showing her a better way. The thing is then I was struggling to get her set up as the ways we found were so different to how I do it - I think I must have learnt 'wrong' but am now so used to it that I can't adapt! We gave up on stitches but she was happy to practise making a chain - funnily enough once she started to get the hang of it, she began to get a smoother flow.

While she did that, I crocheted an inner square. I then did another inner and an outer on one I'd done already. Then I did a little bit of my cross stitch.

Sorry for the absence, but we're full busy with the insulation work on our building and I really don't have the nerve to do anything craft-like. They've just killed the cable of my satellite TV, after promising to simply laying the insulation over it, so I'm moderately pissed. Not a tragedy, it has become increasingly less important to me since we got so much stuff in via central cable, but still annoying.

Sending you best wishes for swift completion of the work and associated disruption (and for fixing of things they've disrupted and for minimal further bother.
