Check-In Post November 25th 2020

Hello, lovely crafters! Welcome to our daily check-in post, where you can tell everybody all about your most recent progress (or lack thereof). Feel free to also chat with other members and generally enjoy yourself!

Check-in is not compulsory, you decide if and when to take part in these posts.

Today's optional question:
Do you tend to put deadlines on your crafty projects? Or do you enjoy starting and stopping and finishing whenever?

If you have questions or suggestions about the community, requests for tags, or want to host the daily check-in posts, head over to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment there.

I generally put some deadline on projects, although it can be a distant one - like I'm aiming to finish my birthday cross stitch by my birthday next year, so a complete year. And obviously granddaughter's jumper needs to be finished for Christmas.

I did a post today, talking about what I've crafted this month, which can be seen here: Craft - Month 7

From the sound of it you should make your Christmas deadline!

The only time I put a deadline on something I'm making is if it's a birthday or Christmas gift. Other than that, it gets done when it gets done.

I haven't done my knitting for today yet, but I'm about to. With no heat and no idea when I'll have any, I've got to try to keep warm somehow.

Got 23 rows done on the second sleeve.

I like giving myself an end goal - this many somethings by this date - but I tend to work in fits and starts so I give myself long leads to account t for the fact that sometimes I'll spend a long weekend neck-deep in plush and other times I won't open my craftbox for weeks.

Can't be in the crafting mood all the time and sometimes the free time just isn't there. What matters is enjoying it when you can.

Unless it's for a special occasion, I don't do deadlines.

Today, Mom and I are going to make stuffing! This house is gonna smell so good!

Same with me.

Oooh, I can almost smell it from here! ;)

It's just gone into the oven. It should start smelling like sage and onion really soon. ^.^ I don't eat it, myself, but I adore how it makes the house smell; and it's my job to tear the bread slices into bits.

I adore the smell of sage and onion but I can't eat onions anymore, so like you all I can do is sniff.

Deadlines of any kind kill all my inspiration stone dead. So even Christmas cards have been known to wait till the following Christmas. The only time I stick to deadlines when I'm writing is for challenges. I ended up doing a craft challenge/exchange and found I didn't enjoy it.

Current projects are all on hold while husband rearranges the lounge and has stuff piled up on the dining room table. Am wondering whether I could use the breakfast bar (have done that for things like mending) but then where would we eat?

Writing challenge deadlines keep me going.

I think crafting is more fun without a deadline, then you can work on a project when you feel like it without feeling you have to.

I don't think I've ever had a deadline for a craft project, except maybe a few Christmas cards years ago.
Next week I have to go to the office twice, so I realised I now need two masks - since the disposable ones don't fit my face very well, so today was a sewing day.
My first mask made ages ago was three layers of old patchwork fabrics I had. Today's is like the luxury upgrade because the only other materials I had in my "inside" sewing box were fancy fabrics.
It's white satin with a lace layer on top that ended up making the white satin appear silver, and the back is black crushed panne which feels nice but will probably be hellish on a warm day. My fingers are sore from all the handstitching but it was a good way to pass two hours of very boring tax webinar training. I'm not that happy with one of the side seams as it's thicker than the other and doesn't bunch as well but I've already unpicked it and resewn it once so I'm not doing it again.

It's so pretty! :) Yeah, that inner fabric'll probably suck soon, since you've got summer coming. (I damn near suffocated a few times back in August.) But at least you can look elegant in your misery?

Don't we always suffer for our art? Lol. But yes, it will look a bit posh compared to those nasty disposable ones. Ironically one of the guys at work complimented mask 1.0 which surprised me because guys never take notice of anything. He was such a sweetheart. :D

Yay for a new mask, it looks pretty!
