Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

I've prepared the fabric for two small pillows I 'm planning to make as gifts for my cousin's grandkids. I've selected the lace for the trimming, ironed everything and even discovered a sheet with lovely felt heart patterns that I might use as decoration. The things we find in our draft cupboard...

That sounds like an intriguing project! I can't sew to save my life. Small felt toys are my limit.

It is fascinating to discover forgotten items in the craft stash. I discover something I don't remember practically every time I go looking for something. Trouble is, I hardly ever find what I was looking for in the first place.

Oh, these are really small cuddly pillows: the bigger one is 17cm by 12 cm. They mainly serve the purpose of using up my fabric rest, left over from the quiet book projects.

(The teddy bear is the only icon I've ever made myself. There used to be an icon making wizard on LJ, which I managed to get working exactly once. ;))

I still wouldn't manage to make one, I've forgotten how to use a sewing machine. Haven't used one in 40 years at least! Small things are good for using up scraps though.

Actually, Louise (the 20cmx20cm mini sewing machine) and I are still working out our issues, so I'm currently sewing everything by hand. It takes forever and is a killer on the eyes, but at least the stitches go in a direction I've envisioned... well... more or less. *g*

I've always found sewing machines to be rather contrary, especially the ones at school that broke down every time I tried to use one. My mum was really good at sewing, with or without a machine. She made a lot of things for me, but it's a skill I didn't inherit.

Hand sewing takes time, but sometimes it's easier than trying to get a machine to behave.

I only have problems with electric sewing machines; they're simply too fast for me, no matter what, and I can never sew in a straight line with them (although you know my general problem with straight lines already). Grandma's old, mechanical one worked like a charm for me because when the task was delicate, I could turn its wheel by hand, as slow as I wanted. Alas, it was too big to be used in this tiny flat, so we had to give it away. A shame, really. :(

We used to have one with a treadle and a handle for turning by hand. I think my sister had that, and then mum's old machine when mum got a newer, better one. I wish I still had the hand one. Newer is not always better.

(I'm not good at straight lines either).

Yes, definitely. I always put up the pictures of my crafts on my Pinterest board and link them to LJ... or to DW, in this particular case.
