Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

This Week's Question: We all probably have multiple WiPs, but which of yours has been hanging around longest, waiting to be finished?

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

no one will know but me.
That is the important part!

That would never be a problem with me! *g*

I always figure those small stitches out of place are how you know it was made by a human, even if other human eyes won't detect it. Gad you were able to recover from the unpicking and redoing all right!

Crafting pivot table for May:

A pivot table, showing I crafted 40 hours in May on two projects.

Just two projects but that's FINE. The blacked-out line is Alphi, he's hiding because I might post this in my journal and I am kinda keeping him a secret from my friends who play the game. Want him to be a surprise for them! Pretty sure none of them read here...

I didn't do any crafting the past 2-3 days because first I was cleaning up the dirty dishes I made at my sister's house, then I was packing/coming home/watching Colin's stream. But it's Monday afternoon now and I have dutifully checked in for work during the times I said I would be available today, so now I am FREE to craft!

It's also the start of another Nerdopolis tournament, so I have some plans to craft things other than Alphi this month. One of the themes is "Rodents" and I'm gonna make this African flower crocheted capybara. I was a little nervous to buy a pattern that has just two projects, but I've since downloaded and given how many pages it is, it should be an okay pattern?

Another theme this month is "Nerdception: How do they travel?" in which we have to choose a method of transportation used by characters/people in our Nerdery. Since my Nerdery is all about video games and I am a HUGE Final Fantasy fan, I am choosing the ever-popular chocobo. I thought about making another chocobo amigurumi but I wasn't too happy with the first two I made, and I don't feel like knitting another dishcloth (I did a double-knit chocobo dishcloth once). I was tempted by this cactuar and chocobo pillow but it's been years since I've done colorwork in Tunisian crochet, plus I just don't think I have TIME to do a large pillow along with finishing Alphi and everything else. So in the end I just bought some DK acrylic yarn to turn into either a Sophie Scarf or The Simple Thing -- the latter is free but I feel the former looks more polished? haven't decided yet which to do.

The last themed challenge is "Optical Illusions", and well, there's a question from another player on what exactly that means, like do we have to craft an actual optical illusion or just be inspired by one? I have the same question! I might not craft anything for this challenge, because Alphi still needs a TON of work.

And I'm home from dog-sitting now, so I held Alphinaud up to his sister Alisaie, and oh dear. He came out much smaller! Alisaie is FURIOUS at this. Not gonna reknit him though, that's a lot of work! Plus, since I knit Alisaie +checks Ravelry+ oh gods FIVE YEARS AGO now? December 2020! I thought it was only 2-3 years... have I really been playing that long? but anyway, it's not surprising my gauge changed in the intervening years!

The capybara looks super cute! So many crafting choices to think about. I've never done colorwork Tunisian crochet, so you're ahead of me! Good luck with Alphi! I totally don't blame you for wanting to re-knit. While being so far away from his twin sister you'd have had no way of knowing there'd be a difference.

I've made one side of the little cardboard basket. It was harder than I imagined. Part of the problem was that I can't, for my life, cut things (even paper) in a straight line, so the individual strangs didn't fit as they should have. Another part of the problem was probably the wet glue that I used. I do own a hot glue gun, but... well, let's just say that the piping bag isn't the only thing I'm fairly hopeless with.

I'll try a different kind of wet glue tomorrow... and when that doesn't work, either, I'll switch to the glue stick - and to double-sided tape if nothing else helps. Those all have their own nasty tricks, so this promises to be a really interesting project (in the Chinese curse sense of "interesting"), and the four sides of the poor basket will probably turn out all different. But we all learn through pain, right? *g*

True. I'm definitely not giving up! I've got lots and lots of toilet rolls to practice with.

Kudos to you for learning and innovating and trying a new craft! Sorry for all the frustration though...

Ah well, I was born clumsy, there's not cure for that...

I did do more scales but tbh atm I'm reorganizing my discount archival playlists.

And I'll pretend I hear a "Whats that?" because ik that's not terribly clear.
list 1
list 2
list 3

"That looks cool but what the fuck are you doing and why" I got really mad once about vocaloid fans incapability to name anyone other than CircusP, Crusher, and Kira for english producers and it went from there. Collecting all the songs like pokemon now.

Going to make some binding for a quilt that's been sitting around too long.

Maybe two bindings for two quilts. Just need to reload my 'binding measurements' app, so I know how many strips to cut.

Quilting has always seemed so intimidating to me. You've got this! Good luck!

Today's accomplishment was weeding the forest garden.

Tomorrow will be the June Poetry Fishbowl with a theme of "Gentleness Is Strength." I hope you'll drop by then and give me some prompts.

Way to go getting the forest garden weeded!

I am intrigued by this June Poetry Fishbowl.

>>Way to go getting the forest garden weeded!<<

Thanks. It was a lot of work but it looks much better now.

>> I am intrigued by this June Poetry Fishbowl.<<

Drop by and check it out! It's fun to watch the crosstalk among the audience. Prompting is free and you get a backchannel copy. The link in my first comment explains how it works.

If you're not available Tuesday, you can leave an advance prompt under the announcement post.

Didn't manage any scrapbooking last night but I managed a bunch today, so that was good. Also over the weekend I turned some old recipe cards and a recipe tin into a spellbook for the wizard in our new D&D game, which was kind of fun! Not very fancy but pretty cute for a wizard lol.
Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025 07:28 pm (UTC)
The spell book is really just a recipe tin full of recipe cards but instead of recipes they contain D&D spells.
Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025 07:01 pm (UTC)
You are amazingly industrious. Where do you find the time for all this?
And yeah, the spellbook sounds very cool indeed.

Thank you! I mostly sneak crafting in when the toddler is asleep or happy playing by herself, as the baby doesn’t mind kicking about on a blanket or in a swing when I do crafty stuff…or I just wait till all the kids are asleep lol.

Knitting has resumed, I had another scarf projected left waiting for months--the one I did a special yarn run for while going on vacation last winter. However, I found out that I don't have enough of another shade of purple--this one will be easier to get but first I'll have to assess what other colours I'll need soon too.
