Check-In Post - March 7th 2025

Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

This Week's Question: Do you remember the first thing you made in school?

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

10 days of vacation and my scarf has nearly doubled in length, I'm maybe three-quarters done.

I gave the fabric-covered eggs a try, only to realize that it won't work the way I hoped it would. So I'll most likely use acrylic paint instead. I've got half a dozen little jars in various colours that need to be used up anyway.

I found a lovely (and blessedly simple) idea of making egg baskets of toilet rolls that I'm planning to give a try. Those will have to be painted, too, so that will be hitting two birds with the same stone. I'm planning to make enough of them (and the styrofoam eggs) to give them my fellow choir members as Easter gifts.

Thanks. I've just discovered that Kik will bring out some egg-decorating kits starting march 10. I just might buy one and use it on my styrofoam eggs.

Those egg baskets look like they’ll be super cute! So kind of you to make gifts for your fellow choir members. Good luck with painting the eggs!

Gift-giving used to be a tradition in our school. There was a colleague - a few years older than I am - who used to make gifts for every other teacher for Christmas and for Easter. When she retired, I took over. When I retired, no-one picked up the tradition; not their fault, though. Working conditions have been worsened in the education business a great deal since then. People are struggling to survive.

Said colleague is also a member of the choir, and now we are making gifts for our fellow choir members. :)

Sorry to hear your original plan won’t work. Good luck with the egg baskets and eggs

I'm sure it could be made work... somehow. I'm just not skilled and inventive enough to *make* it work.

Today I made a cradle purse! https://www.instagram.com/p/DG6DVy5gEEq/?igsh=MWhtem82dXU1ZnA4YQ==

Woke up early while everyone else was still sleeping and got started on it, then distracted the toddler with ballet videos to finish it. The pattern I used was for a much smaller doll so I had to engineer it up a few sizes but I like how it turned out! I used up a good portion of a yarn cake I wound out of scraps the other day, so I feel pretty good!

What a clever idea - it looks great

I can take zero credit for the idea. Saw one at a craft fair years ago and have kept the concept in the back of my head...

Oh, this is super cute! And using up scraps is always an economic solution. :)

I redid the row I messed up last weekend, and made some progress on top of that. I’m now on row 34 of 52 in the first chart for the blanket. There are seven charts all together, but some are smaller. I’ll have to keep up a good pace if I’m going to finish in time for the fair deadline.

I got some new yarn from my mom yesterday. She went to her local Joanne's and enjoyed the sales. Tonight I started my chicken plushie. I knit the base square and I'm having trouble picking up the stiches all the way around the square, which is the next step.

Also the ball of yarn is about as big as my dog. 🤣

It is both! I have a pomeranian and the ball of yarn is a big bulky yarn in a large skein.

Yay, a chicken plushie! I bet it will be super cute.
