Check-in Post February 26, 2025

Standing in for our fearless (albeit currently battered) community leader. :)

Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

This Week's Question: What kind of crafting supplies can you never resist buying?

Did one tow of the surface crochet on the trivet. We will see if I get any more done today, I have some more kitchen tasks to do too.

Every little counts and sometimes itโ€™s all we can do to tackle just a little.

Way to go! Thanks for letting me know where you found the pattern. I shamelessly bought it and am excited to give it a try!

I have too many of lots of things - felt for making stuffed animals, needle felting, downloadable patterns, kits for card making...

At least you have plenty of things you can do when the mood strikes!

Suppose you always have plenty stashed to fall back on.

I feel this so hard...needle felting looks so cool!

Thank you to [personal profile] wiseheart for kindly stepping into the breach so I wouldn't have to drool on my keyboard. I do have the feeling back in my mouth now, thankfully, but I'm tired.

No knitting was done today, due to concerns about the possibility of drooling on that. By the time my mouth was working properly I wasn't in the mood to concentrate on reading the pattern for the decreases.

After the almost three years it's taken to get to an actual extraction appointment, it was done in about 15 minutes. Not pleasant, but not unbearable. I'm just happy that it's finally done. Just needs the gum to heal now.

So am I. The hoops I had to jump through, and the year-long waiting list, and then a cancellation of my appointment... It was starting to feel like it would never be dealt with.

Understandably so. Glad you survived the appointment and had a chance to rest and recover!

Thank you. It's a relief after almost 3 years of trying to get it dealt with.

I got another hexagon done for my honeybee blanket during a work meeting. I don't know if my boss loves that I crochet during meetings but he hasn't told me to stop, so…

What kind of crafting supplies can you never resist buying?
Yarn. I have so much but I'm still like ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ’ธ every time the yarn I like goes on sale.

Maybe he assumes it keeps you more focused to do something with your hands.

I told him straight-up that's why I do it and even used pedagogy to win the argument ("Do you believe in alternative learning modalities or not?") but he thinks it "looks unprofessional." I suspect he's softened on it - he recently said he might ask me to teach him how to crochet after we had a full day (literally 8am-4pm) of meetings.

Me today at Joann's looking over the already much picked-over yarn...

That honeybee blanket sounds adorable! And you know what, if you're not disturbing anyone while crocheting, then keep on. I concentrate better if I'm doing something with my hands, especially during a really boring meeting...

I brought my knitting to the emergency vet last month when we needed to bring my dog in. (She was fine, just a random case of the barf-for-no-reasons.) The triage doctor was really surprised because he'd never seen anyone do that before, but I had other people in the waiting room comment that they thought that was smart, a better way to pass the time than just staring at the phone. I have a lot of times really wanted to be able to bring my knitting to church because I get overstimulated and it helps me concentrate better, but I've been too nervous to ask, haha

I decided on the weekend that I'm going to finish the 'nearly done' blanket this week. I've done all the regular rows, and am now looking at edging. Need to get my book of pretty edges out to try something new!

Way to go! That sounds like an excellent plan. And trying something new is always so much fun! Books of pretty edges are so fun to have and try.

So far so good. The first edge turned out to not be suitable for the weight of yarn, and now that I'm committed to the next one, well, I should have modified it more than I did, but it will be a lovely wavy edge anyway.

I finished putting together two fandom-themed tunnel cube pop-up books and feel pretty good about that. They're currently in the book press right now and I will see about getting them mailed off in the next few days, since one is a birthday present.

I bought...way too much at Joann's, and now there are so many things I want to make (but also I picked up some yarn that is for definite future projects) and try and do, but given my time constraints (T-20 days till Three arrives) I must Stick To My Crafting Schedule, so after this post I shall continue on the stuffed bunny project.

Yay for getting things finished! I hope the plans on the crafting schedule are doable and that there is no unplanned excitement to interfere in the near future.
