Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

This Week's Question: Have you ever made a Valentines gift or card?

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

We had laundry day, too. No writing (as yet) on my end, but some unexpected (and totally insane) crafting. *see below*

Darn laundry!

Happy to hear you got writing done. Maybe some time for crafting tomorrow? Fingers crossed.

Yay for writing!

I've been planning to mend one of our old, valuable stitched pillowcases (true Hungarian folk art) for months, as the blanket stitch edging has frayed out and is partially gone. Now, after several craft-less days, what did I do? Did I finally start working on the dear old thing? Nah; I started another toy elephant, this time repurposing some old bedlinens and an old nightgown. Those are very different from felt, being cotton, both of them, which is easier to sew through but fray out just as easily. Clearly, I'm not a sane person. But both ears and one panel of the elephant are done, and I've already started the second panel, so it ought to be finished in a couple of days. *fingers crossed*

Thanks, luck is always needed with these projects.

Kudos to you for being able to mend those, but also zero judgment on trying a different project instead. The toy elephant sounds adorable! And also wow you make them so fast!

This is a really easy pattern. If I weren’t so hopeless with a sewing machine, I could make an elephant in three hours, tops. By hand it takes at least three day.

As for the pillowcase, I would never dare to try my hand on the actual embroidery! But fix ing the edges only requires blanket stitch… an awful lot of those, though.

Endless beading for my 1920s dress, but I am making progress!
Sunday, February 2nd, 2025 04:39 am (UTC)
I can only imagine how endless that beading will be, but it sounds like the results will be more than worth it!

Oh wow, that's so cool! Best of luck!

It was a good day today. Hit my minimum studying time, met a friend and finished the day off by writing a letter and even decorating the envelope a bit more. It was a pre-decorated envelope but it was lacking something and now I am fully satisfied with it. What a great day!

Ooooh very nice! The recipient of the letter will be pleased indeed.

I certainly hope so! Haven't heard from her yet but she always takes a little time to reply so no worries on that front.

One of the best days this month for sure!

Last Friday was another good day for studying and meeting up with a friend, she wanted to go shopping and we had fun in the city centre. But that day and indeed that weekend did not include letter writing, which was a pity. Thankfully, I am now back at the desk this week, yay!

Oh, nice!

It was a very satisfying way to finish the day. So good when that happens.

Worked on a crochet placemat here and there while kids were distracted by playing/asleep, and also learned how to fold a Victorian Puzzle Purse, so that was fun! Haven't tried actually writing/decorating one, as I wanted to see how one looked folded up and decide how to go about decorating it from there. But new skill unlocked! Years of origami have paid off.

Learning new skills is always useful.

The raglan is done! I'm knitting a few more rows then I'll separate the torso from the sleeves. (Gah I'm glad to be done with this part, the little paperclip-shaped plastic thingies kept slipping out of my stitches.)
