Check-In Post - January 27th 2025

Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

This Week's Question: If you're making any, what are your crafting resolutions for 2025?

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

Speaking to a human is so hard, and they can almost always fix the issue quickly.

Isn't she cute? :)

I worked on her most of the morning and half the afternoon, and now she's finished. Yay! My confidence about my sewing abilities has returned.

So does Mum. I guess she'll stay with us for a while; Mum won't give her up easily. :)

Absolutely adorable

I sewed together two quilt tops, which were originally only going to be one quilt top, but I looked at it, thought it was too large, and turned it into two tops with only the addition of a single block!

One quilt top:
January WIP

becomes wo quilt tops:
Not very laid back plaidish quilts. Not very laid back plaidish quilts.

During the long weekend (which it was here in Australia), I also finished a shift-dress that I started about 2 months ago. I gave up on it being a 'comfy dress to wear' - it's now my 'summer beach caftan' suitable for wearing over a costume.

I shortened the sleeves, unpicked the side seams up to the pockets and re-sewed the edges, then I overlocked just about every seam in the dress - and cursed that I hadn't done it sooner! Overlocking is a wonderful thing.

Finally, I have decided: no more shift-dresses. I don't like how I look in them and I need to stop imagining I'll look good in them.

The quilts look really amazing!

I enjoyed the long weekend but wasn't as productive as I could have been, but hey, that's what weekends are for, right? Looks like you were busy!

I've been working on another kirtle because re-enactment season is going to be here faster that I can squeeze into some other clothes I have. Other events are starting to chip into my upcoming weekends, so I really need to be productive. The kirtle has the side and back gores and I'm currently working on the neck. There's photos on my phone, so I'll share some when I get them onto my computer.
