Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

This Week's Question: What's on your holiday wish list this year?

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

the 6yo is still on a sewing spree!! he made a little toy for our cat by sewing a sachet and stuffing it with catnip. the cat is obsessed with it. he has also decided he wants to make matching shirts for him and his pikachu stuffie with a picture of pikachu on front. we picked out some tshirt fabric and quilting cotton to make an applique, and got a few pieces of the shirt cut out last night (i don't have a good cutting surface and cutting fabric on the floor is HELL for my body, so it's always the slowest part of the process for me.)

Your 6yo is a marvel! I used to do crafty projects with my pupils who were a couple of years older, and I know it isn't an easy thing.

Oh, wow. This is wonderful!

shirts is a big goal!
Friday, December 6th, 2024 08:14 am (UTC)
That's wonderful! I wish you both luck with the shirts!

Culinary crafting today (again):

I've decorated my Almond and poppy seed biscuits and my Orangenbusserln, which are, basically, shortbread cookies with finely chopped aranzini, orange peel and orange juice in the dough.

I wanted to make them look a bit like the mandarin oranges they sell together with leaves (I never buy them because, honestly, they are expensive enough without paying for the weight of additional inedible parts, but they look pretty). Obviously, I failed. But it was a heroic attempt; not to mention fiddly.

At least the poppy seed biscuits turned out really pretty. This ready-made icing I had bought might have been outrageously expensive (well, it was), but it has the lovely metallic effect the package promised, so I don't mind the price.

Sounds very pretty (and tasty!)

Inspired by a Youtube video on the Treasure Books channel, I made an advent calendar for my DW friend [personal profile] bethctg. I reused one of my son's school binders and made most of the envelope and some of the things inside. Each day has a quartet of little things (bookmarks, stickers, cards, ephemera, little notebooks, ornaments, etc.)

I finished another cat bed and started the next.

I don't have anything on my wish list other than wishing that people everywhere would be kind to one another.

That is a wish I can get behind immediately.

Tired, so copying & pasting my status report from a Ravelry thread:

Folks: I had Stitch Club today, and when I arrived, there was a new participant and I happened to sit next to her. She kept turning to me and saying, “WHERE do I know you from?” We finally figured it out after some questioning: she’s the mother of a friend of mine from college! And actually, I took classes with both of them. So that was a fun, pleasant surprise today!

I have Big Plans for crafting this month, and am going to try my hardest to accomplish everything I want to do, but I am not sure it will be possible. Especially if mom keeps interfering with my plans, like the past few days: one of our cable boxes died, and I spent about six hours over 3 days trying to get (a) a replacement, (b) the replacement working. Alas, I was not successful, so the cable company is coming out tomorrow for a service call. But ugh, this was prime crafting time I missed out on!

According to my spreadsheet I’m a bit behind on Christmas presents so far, but well, couldn’t be helped, alas.

Commission - I finished the cuff of my front (including doing the name) and the back is completely crocheted, and am now joining them together. But my eyes have had enough close-up work today so I am quitting for the evening. Still to do, after joining: make the felt pieces & crocheted belt buckle, sew them on, sew applique on stocking, make the hanging loop. Then I’m DONE! Hoping to finish tomorrow.

What a wonderful surprise!

Good luck on your plans and with the cable tech.

Well done!

I knitted a row on the wingspan shawl today. I am still frazzled from this morning. We are fine. We weren't near the earthquake (thankfully). We did have a tsunami warning, but it was lifted after about an hour.

I was going to knit more, but it's more frustrating than soothing at the moment. I'm going to try reading.
