Check-In Post - October 15th 2024
Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.
Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?
There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.
This Week's Question: Have you ever made something and then had no idea what to do with it?
If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.
I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

I have sewn up a pair of arm warmers for my neighbour's daughter, and finished knitting the second of a pair for myself, so I still have three pairs to sew up =/ I can't win, Lol!

List of my Saturday purchases hopefully coming soon. My extra cardigan yarn also came in today along with a book on crocheting socks. The yarn is the same lot as the earlier purchases just like I asked for, yay! Plan B would have been to make the cardigan slightly smaller and crochet a border with the second purchase. I realised I should have gotten enough yarn for some wiggle room. Hopefully it is enough now.

Looking forward to your Saturday purchases list. I so love reading about pretty craft supplies. Can we hope for a photo taken, too?

Yay for managing to get more yarn of the same lot! Dye lots don't seem to vary as much these days as they used to, but it's still better if you can get the same lot. If you have any left over from your cardigan, you can always make matching socks now you have the book =D

I have progressed the pink, white and brown blanket to the point that I need to find more yarn; I did not have quite as much as I thought, but I succeeded at yarn chicken. I've made a tiny bit of progress on the arm warmers, but I think I'm going to have to frog them, because the yarn is too stiff - the rib isn't really being rib. And I've gone through the box of crochet squares, pulled out all the incomplete ones, and started completing them. I've done one and a bit; I'm not sure how many there are altogether.
I also spent a bit of time in the garden - cleared about one square metre of path, including discovering that it is in fact six bricks wide, not five, because the garden has been encroaching! That bit of clearing half filled the wheelbarrow, and I did not get to the bit of path I had been planning to clear.

The arm warmers will probably need a few tries to find out what works, whether that's the yarn used, the stitch, or the crochet hook size. You'll get there. Well done on the crochet squares.
I feel you on the path clearing. Over summer, I unearthed a path I hadn't seen in 20 years, and it took me a long time to get to the part that I was originally planning to clear. Sounds like you're making good progress though. It's an incredibly satisfying feeling to retore a path to usefulness. Good luck!

I am indeed calling it the Neapolitan Icecream blanket in my head! I'm thinking more pink and white, but I might have to invest in some yarn (I need to check the stash, but I think that the reason I stopped where I did was that was the last of it).
Yay for finding paths! I will continue to poke at it. I suspect that the path is going to need repaving, but I won't know that until I can actually see it.

Hopefully you can get yarn that will work with what you've been using and look good.
Good luck finding your path. Maybe you won't need to re-pave all of it. Mine is made of big slabs. They're uneven due to roots growing under them, but still good enough.

I'm reasonably sure I can get a baby pink and an off white in the right weight of acrylic at the local big box craft store. The trick will be getting only that!

never the right yarn for the project!
I have several boxes (I think) of yarn in storage; I really need to get in there and find out what is there, what I actually want (guess: less than half) and then get on to either rehoming or using it up. But 'work out what is in the craft/spare room' is an ongoing project, and at least I'm making progress.

Good luck with locating and sorting all your yarn!
All my yarn was in a storage unit for almost 8 years I think. I got rid of a lot when I reclaimed it a few years after mum passed away, but there's still a huge amount. I need to get on with my first Aran project, but knitting arm warmers is good for when I'm watching the dancing on TV. I don't have to watch what I'm doing.

Crochet squares is my 'not looking at my fingers' task, although I do get a bit of knitting done while watching things. It says something about how shot my attention is that I'm not making progress on the knitting project at any great rate.
