Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

Argh! It's been a day. Not a bad one, but too much to do and too little time. I had laundry to do, a pile of dishes to wash, the fire to deal with (of course), and although I'd planned to sew up a pair of arm warmers, that didn't get done.


I did knit 10 arm warmer rows, so at least I did something crafty, but the rest of the day was spent writing, and even then I failed to finish the fic I started yesterday. It still needs more work.

Well, writing is important, too. And small progress is also progress. Don't feel discouraged!

I don't, I was just frustrated, but I forgot there was another TV show I wanted to watch tonight, second part of a documentary about the solar system, so I got another dozen rows knitted while watching that =D

The writing is a bit annoying because I still haven't finished a challenge fic I started yesterday. I wanted the next 3 days free to work on my spook_me fic. *sigh* October is hard, so much to do.

It was. Made worse by the fact that I forgot the pile of dishes waiting to be washed and then had to rush through my chores.

Crappy illumination made the first pencil holder of the year look this colourless:



I mean, yes, it was made with pastel colours, but in life they actually do have some contrast. I might take another photo later, with natural light... this one is very depressing. *grrrr* I worked so much on this stupid thing; the burlap is so loosely woven that I had to put a linen lining under it, and consequently had to actually sew the whole thing, which cost me the entire afternoon. The glued versions are usually done in 20 minutes, tops. So, it ought to look good on the photo at the very least, dammit!

It's still very pretty, but it's so annoying to take a photo and find the colours look all wrong.

It really is! I'll try it again with my iPad, perhaps that works better. It's still the old mini that takes the best photos, but the mailing programme no longer works (or only just at the odd times), so I can't transfer it to the other devices. And no, the mini can no longer access DW or Pinterest, either. :(

Do you not have a USB stick that you could use to move pictures between devices? I would think that would have been simpler than emailing them to yourself.

I don't think iPads or phones have a slot for USB sticks; I do have those, but can only use them between Methuselah-the-laptop and the desktop PC... I think.

That's a nuisance. Take a look at the iPad anyway, just to be sure.

Photos annoyingly wash the cours out sometimes. I spend more time balancing the lighting afterwards on my phone. It looks pretty though!

Yes, I do edit the pictures afterwards, too, but they rarely end up looking like the real thing.

Today I complete a knitting sample for my first knitting class which is happening THIS WEEK! I'm excited and kind of scared, TBH. It will probably go fine, but I worry anyway because I'm a natural worrier.

The sample was pretty much another easy fingerless mitt, but I didn't sew it up so they could see what the fabric looked like on both sides. I made little cards and tied them on to label each part: this is the cast on, here's the bind off, this is stockinette, that's garter, etc. Hopefully it helps!

Have you ever made something and then had no idea what to do with it?

Probably about 75% of what I make is stuff I made just for the heck of it, because it (a) looked fun to do, (b) would fulfill a Nerdopolis challenge. I don't really need 29 coasters in my room, and yet...

Well done for getting the knitting sample done. Labelling the various parts sounds a great idea.

That IS a lot of coasters, lol!
