Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.
Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?
There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.
This Week's Question: What piece of advice would you give someone interested in trying your favourite craft?
If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.
I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

And, my Aran yarn arrived, in a HUGE parcel, because it's thirty 100g balls. I've decided on the blue for a cardigan, the pink for a V-neck sweater, the third colour I'm undecided, I want to see how much yarn I use for the other projects before I make up my mind.

I just finished a feather-and-fan scarf in a green/blue Zauberball. It needs blocking (quite hard) but seems to have worked out well. The yarn was a little less smooth than I'd hoped, but the colour changes are fun.

I love the feather and fan pattern, I hope there will be a pic once your scarf has been blocked. The colour sounds delicious!

I remember that sweater, not surprising considering how many times I've watched Psycho. =/
There's nothing worse than finishing a sweater and then finding it's just a little too short. I usually add an extra inch or two when I think it's long enough, just to be sure, providing I have enough yarn. Especially ion the sleeves, because too short sleeves are so annoying. I hope it proves the right length for your wife.

At least she tried it on, and apparently likes it a bit shorter than you'd prefer.

her reasoning was, "he's very long and it's short on him". XD

Well, I guess that's as good a reason as any!

I'd suggest if you do decide to try knitting a sweater in sections, look for a pattern with either raglan shaping or dropped shoulders, they're easier to get the hang of, not to mention easier to sew up, than the ones with set-in sleeves, where you have to shape the top of the sleeve, and shape the armhole, then try to match the two pieces. It can be a bit of a headache getting everything to fit. Drop shoulders are simple because there's no armhole shaping and when the sleeve is the length you want, you just cast off. I'll admit, as I get older I get lazier, so even if a pattern doesn't have drop shoulders, I often just do them anyway. It depends on the kind of sweater though. Something dressy I'll do inset sleeves if the pattern has them, but for more casual styles I take the easy way out ;)

Wash bags for smaller or more delicate items are so handy. Many years ago, my late mum made a bunch of drawstring net bags that I still use.
Sounds like you're doing great sorting the oddments!
