Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

No crafting again today, but I don't care. It's been gloriously warm and sunny, probably the last really good day we'll get this year, so I decided to tackle the patch of ground I cleared earlier this year, that got overgrown again. I ripped off the top growth again on two-thirds of the patch, the rest will have to stay as it is because there's honeysuckle flowering again, and other plants that will have to be moved, plus the unexpected cabbages which I don't want to disturb. I want to see what will happen with them.


I did pot up a tomato plant that has grown in the same patch, in the hope I might keep it alive long enough to produce a couple of tomatoes. It's very healthy and sturdy. Then I started digging, trying to get out some of the dock roots. The thickest ones I could only twist until they broke off, getting 6 to 8 inches of root. Some of the smaller ones pulled out with roots over a foot long. I only dug about half the patch I cleared, but I filled a bucket with huge roots. Tomorrow should still be warmish, but I think there's rain forecast so I don't know if I'll be able to finish my digging.

I wonder if you'll end up with an unexpected veggie garden. You'd deserve it, after all that hard work.

Who knows? I just want to stop the unwanted weeds and plants from taking over. I've spent all summer preventing the docks from seeding, but they root so deep that stopping them from growing back is almost impossible. Some have roots over an inch across.

So am I, because from here on it looks like rain every day with temperatures dropping to 13C by mid-week. Cold and wet, just what I DON'T need =(

Redesigned and repurposed

I mean these little guys:



I bought this angel-making kit at Rayher last year but wasn't really happy with either the design or the colour concept. Not for angels anyway. So I've redesigned them as pine tree gnomes, with more contrasting colours and lots of hand embroidery. My concept (though not complete yet) looks at the moment like this:



The little hats will have sparkly pom-poms on the top, and I think both arms and legs will be made of chenille wires; coloured ones, too. Little gnomes should be bright and colourful, don't you agree? I've saved the wings for the other angel project; that way I won't have to make them myself. Might add a little sparkle to those, too, though.

No crafting today for me either as we took advantage of a warm (and not too hot!), dry day to go for a beach walk. But the yarn for my next sweater project has arrived, so once I've finalised how I'm going to use the colours the needles will be out again.

No crafting today, since I was feeling unwell most of the day--but I read outside and enjoyed the weather for a while, as it was gloriously overcast and the lowest day temps in months :D

I finished my black & red scarf and moved on to a pink & mauve & blue scarf with ~wavy~ stripes~
(well it's glorified zig-zags but I still count them as waves because)
