Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

This Week's Question: We all make mistakes - what's your most memorable crafting disaster?

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

I've finished pot holder #3; that means I only have one more to make. This one will be the rather large, two-handed kind one can see used in the GBBO, just because the last piece of fabric is better suited for one of those. Mum and I laughed that my pot holders are getting increasingly larger, but at least I've used up most of the shreds of her murdered gown.

Until I set them aflame, which happens with my potholders regularly. We cook with gas, and it's hard to calculate how high the flame is allowed to be while I work with the pots... like stirring them or removing them or whatnot.

Only if one is a clumsy idiot. Such things never happened to my Granny!

It depends on what you're used to it. We never had anything but gas for cooking and baking.
Do you have an electric oven?

Oh nice. I didn't imagine that you were getting so many out of it.

More than hoped, actually, but I'll go on with the project to the bitter end. ;))

Hehe, pot holder gigantism FTW! I do love a large pot holder, too, they come in handy.

Best wishes for doing that last remaining one!

Thanks. The problem with large pot holders is that I set them aflame all the time. So having some extra ones is a good thing.

Uh-oh! What are your potholders made of? Are they easy to extinguish? :O
Friday, April 26th, 2024 07:49 pm (UTC)
Of an old gown of my mother. Fortunately, the kitchen sink is right next to the oven. *g*

Ah, so likely cotton or linen and certainly not polyester. What a great setup though for the purpose of extinguishing potholders. ;-)

It stated "cotton" on the original label, but I strongly suspect that there are some synthetic fibers in the mix as well. It does not feel like pure cotton; and the lining is synthetic anyway.

Oh, that surprises me. But even better than that you were able to get it extinguished quickly.

By the way, I adore your sewing machine icon. So good. :D

It was made by one of my online friends who generously allowed me to use it.

That is amazing! And this is the perfect comm for it, too.

That's great. So pleased that you were able to salvage as much as your did and to put it to good use whilst kepping its memory alive.
Thursday, April 25th, 2024 05:09 pm (UTC)
That was the basic idea, yes.

You are doing great! Good luck with the last one :D
