Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

This Week's Question: Who do you most enjoy making things for: family, friends, yourself, a special someone?

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

You still made headway, so that's good.

30 rows is still good progress!

That's still goo progress :D

I was mending today... well, sort of. In truth, I'm in the process to sew together the button plackets of some old nightshirts and repurpose the actual buttons for crafting. I always pull the nightshirts over my head, without using the buttons, so they could serve a better purpose in the future.

My thoughts exactly! :)

That's a good idea! I always remove excess buttons and save them too!

Buying buttons at the sewing supply shop is outrageously expensive, so one has to be creative.
Sunday, February 18th, 2024 10:48 pm (UTC)
Oh, that's handy :D Never hurts to have extra buttons laying around.

Indeed. And they are pretty little buttons in pale pink, pale purple and yellow, too, respectively. Two nightshirts down, three more to go.

Cut out the pieces of a dress for a frocktails event on Saturday.

Cutting out is the worst bit. The sewing is more fun. Less than a week though! I hope it's not too complicated.

Simple fitted dress in a knit fabric. I have a feeling I got all confused and cut it against the grain of the fabric, though.

Oh well.
Sunday, February 18th, 2024 10:49 pm (UTC)
That sounds nice!
Monday, February 19th, 2024 12:28 am (UTC)
I hope it will be!

Should be okay. I can sew a seam here and there at lunchtime through the week...

Though I've started the sewing and am nearly up to the second one being finished, I've now got a pic of the colours to share :)
Sunday, February 18th, 2024 11:13 pm (UTC)
Those colors are lovely :D
Monday, February 19th, 2024 09:08 pm (UTC)
Gorgeous colours!

Not doing a lot of actual crafting today, but I'm looking over some beginner's quilting tutorials. I'm not jumping in just yet, but my nephews live in a warm, temperate area where they've no use for anything crocheted, so I'm considering giving quilting a go so I can make them light ones. I just have a need to make them crafty things while they're still young enough they won't think it's horrifically uncool to use them x)

Oh, thank you! That might come in handy; I haven't done any real sewing in a long time, even, so I'm sure there's a lot of basic quilting stuff I'll be learning/catching up on.

Oh, neat! I'll go look them up at some point.

I've sewn some and was all right at it, but it's been a while. It's a handy skill, but the actual task of it I find a little boring. It's definitely not for everyone xD

I have to sort out my machine situation; I have a small bernette, which is fine for minor mending but would be tedious to use for larger projects. I've been putting off getting another because my mom had several machines when she passed, but my sister and I are still sorting out the will and such, so I'm not sure if there's going to be one I can take or not--that's why I've been putting off any sewing the last couple of years, honestly.
