Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

Today's Question: No question today.

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

It's always more pleasant to start something new than to do the last, finishing (and usually boring) task of a previous project, isn't it?

Small wonder, with the army of spiders you were creating!

You know, it's just occurred to me: Jack hated "those spidery mouse things", whatever they might have been. And you've been making spiders and meeces for quite some time. Is this an attempt to keep a certain time traveller out of your hair? *g*

Good luck in your sweater pattern search!

Writing was impossible today, so I did some minor crafting instead.

I've finished the almost-forgotten pencil holders and am quite content how they turned out. See for yourself:

I've also made surprise box #108. Things are shaping up nicely.

Thanks. :)

The penguin was a last-minute idea; I was agonizing about which colour to take for the third tin can that wouldn't clash with the green one... and then the penguin idea just popped up before my inner eye. ;)

Oh that penguin is adorable!

Well, I currently don't have that much crafting mojo, but I'm still going to Stitch Club anyway. Halfway through today's meeting, a new lady walked in. She was carrying a crocheted Christmas stocking very similar to this one and looking for people to commission to make some more for her. Once I found out she needed them for 2024 rather than this year, I volunteered. Now I need to figure out how much to charge! That's always the hard part.

I do feel like my mojo might be slowly returning, because now that [community profile] holiday_wishes is open, I've been perusing wish lists and seeing if there's anything quick I can make for people. Already have a few ideas.

That is a seriously cute Christmas stocking; and yay for inspiration returning!

I have finished a jumper that I’ve had on needles since April last year! I’ve also picked back up a cowl that I started about six months ago and has been lurking unloved in a project bag, I’m only doing a couple of rows a day at the moment but I’ll take slow progress over the no progress I’d been making for ages.

Isn't it a nice feeling, to get things finished after a long time?
Thursday, November 16th, 2023 10:44 pm (UTC)
It really is - I didn’t realise how much it was bugging me having a couple of long standing ‘almost done’ projects but I do feel better for having finished it!
Friday, November 17th, 2023 07:34 am (UTC)
Congrats! Well done.

Thanks, I’m really pleased with it! The cowl has quite a fiddly pattern (it’s colour work) so I just need to keep telling myself that it’s fine to just do a couple of rows and put it aside, that any progress is good progress.

Cut a bunch of 'jam jar tops' for decorating homemade preserves and alcohol gifts.

Nice

While doing the weekly shopping, I picked up some plastic spoons. I saw a technique for painting wreaths with them I want to try on this year's holiday cards.

I wrote a bit on my 100 Halloween prompts I want to get done, despite Halloween being done and gone.

I started to do some knitting, but noticed something very wrong with my cat. It kind of derailed the night.

It involves dipping the widest part of the bowl of the spoon in puddles of watercolor paint and making dots and splotches with it.

Thanks.

Yeah.

Thanks *hugs*

Painting with plastic spoons? Now that's intriguing!
Hope the cat recovers.

It's basically dipping the widest part of the bowl in puddles of watercolor paint and making layers of dots & splotches with it to recreate foliage. It looks very fancy when it's done, at least in the example.

Thanks. Sadly, I don't think that is in the cards this time.
