Hello to all members, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

Today's Question: No question today.

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

I added some stitches to the current cross stitch last night before bed and this afternoon to keep my mind busy I added some rows to both the scarves

Much like books I wouldn't know how to have a singular project going on at once ^_^

Three books on the go.. glad it's not just me!
Wednesday, February 17th, 2021 10:58 am (UTC)
Oh, don't I know it about having multiple books on the go! Problem is, I never finish them!

I managed about another 6 rows on the baby blanket during D&D on Sunday :)
Wednesday, February 17th, 2021 07:37 pm (UTC)
Thank you! It’s 140-150 stitches a row, so they are quite long rows.
Wednesday, February 17th, 2021 10:23 am (UTC)
Well done you!

Thank you!

Ohhh baby blanket! Are there patterns on it? What colours are you doing?
Friday, February 19th, 2021 09:05 pm (UTC)
It's just a basket-weave pattern, so it's pretty simple. The colors are blue and gray, so it's a bit low-key and wintry.

Those colours sound really nice.

I was meant to be writing tonight but I ended up at the crafting table again. *headdesk*
A million years ago I bought a paper stack that was all punched flowers that you just press out of the stack (kind of like those kids books where you used to punch out the paper clothes to put on the cardboard dolly - God, showing my age now! Kids these days wouldn't have a clue what I'm talking about!).
Anyway, I had about a half dozen I'd made in a box with no idea what to do with them, but I mounted one on a card last night and it turned out pretty good, so I pressed out another six tonight and spent the night carefully clipping all the edges where they get punched out of the paper so they didn't have the ratty looking edges when I put them on cards.
Here's how they look once they're layered up with mounting foam:

I'll wait until I've got a few cards done to show you how they turn out. I'm going to need another box to store all these cards, especially these ones that are super thick because of the flowers.

The next generation will be so different to all the ones that came before it, that's for sure. I'll bet they don't have those pre-inked colouring books that you painted with a water brush either. Omg, or, I just remembered, the ones that had the sheets of mosiac stickers that you stuck on the colour ins! God I loved those! And tracing books!
I said to some work colleagues (all about ten years younger than me) that I couldn't understand when they were talking about this so-called famous donut shop (one of them did bring in some of their pretty yummy donuts) that it's open 24 hours. I said who's buying donuts at 3 in the morning and they told me there's actually a queue! Then I told them that when I was their age we had these funny metal things call coins that you used to pay for things... Lol. Millennials...

Paint with water ones still exist. I bought some for my grandbabe. I haven't seen tracing books since I was a kid. Lots of parents are starting to restrict screen time in favour of making things, but maybe that's just the people I hang with. We teach kids crafting and old skills. There's nothing cuter than kids making stuff.

You can still buy the pre-inked colouring books - I bought one for my granddaughter for her 4th birthday (posher than the cheap sort, it was her birthday!). I also bought her a book with little stampers and paint, so you can add certain shapes to the pictures. I thought they'd be great activities for her when her mummy wanted something easy to keep her busy.

I used to get the Bunty! And yes, cutting out the paper doll and all the outfits.

I actually made a bunch of medieval paper dolls for lockdown for my history friends. The dolls (both boys and girls) are in historically correct clothes and were a big hit with the parents. I ended up putting them online for free sharing. Because Mums need crafts.

If anyone wants to relive their childhood a little...
https://rosaliegilbert.com/paperdolls.html A lot of them are just links to the files on fb though some are the actual PDF's. I got distracted with sewing, so they're not all up.
