Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

Zero crafting today, sadly. The weather forecast is for plummeting temperatures to the point that in a few days I'll be facing highs of 10C (50F) and lows at night of a mere 3C (somewhere around 35F I think). Therefore, my time today was spent getting all the removable parts out of the fire and scrubbing them with wire brushes (I had help with that part) and scraping as much of the remaining gunk off the inside of the fire as possible, then putting it all back together. Despite wearing two pairs of rubber gloves, my hands still got filthy. I scrubbed my nails and fingers, several times, but they're still not completely clean and I don't want to muck up the cross stitch.


Tomorrow rain is forecast, so I'll leave doing anything else with the fire until the weekend. Always a bad idea to try lighting it when there's a heavy overcast. The smoke settles downwards. I'll do a couple of test burns before lighting it properly, to dry out the chimney and make sure it's drawing properly, then light it either Sunday or Monday. Also ordered logs for delivery Wednesday.

Ugh, sounds like an unpleasant job; but a necessary one if you don't want to freeze. *offers sympathies* We have some minor heating going on during the night, but it doesn't work in the bathroom and the loo - I'll have to complain at the janitor about it. Taking shower in a cold bathroom isn't very pleasant.

I'll admit I will be glad to have heat - and hot water - again, plus the ability to dry laundry, although I'd hoped to wait a couple more weeks before lighting it because of the price of coal. Ah well, maybe next spring will be hot and I'll be able to let the fire out sooner.

I worked on the mini sewing kits again: I've sewn on 25 buttons, two on one small felt strip each, and stitched the felt strips to the inside of the kits. I also glued on the self-adhesive Velcro patches but delayed the stitching for another day or two, in the hope that my finger will have fully healed by then. The sewing together of the kits will have to wait for next week; I'm in delay with that part but I've done lots of other crafting things in the meantime, so it's okay.

That's great progress on the sewing kits, and sensible to leave the sewing of the Velcro a little longer. You've got plenty of other things to keep you busy.
