Hello to all members, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

Today's Question: No question today.

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

I think almost everything has basic cropping programmes. Phones do, so I'm guessing your mini thing might? Can't wait to see pics!

*waves* hi! i joined! :D

i haven't gotten any work on my main project the past few days because i was sick and didn't want to work on a gift for my best friend while full of pestilence, but tonight i'm getting back to it -- it's a double-knitted scarf in the Ace Pride Flag colours, with an Ace of Hearts design on a few of the squares.

my goal is to manage 3 rows a day. double-knitting takes a bit more brain from me so 3 is a safe-ish number. also i'd like to finish it and send it THIS YEAR (it was intended for Christmas 2020).

Good luck with your project! What's the difference with double knitting? (says complete knitting dunce!)

thank you!

double knitting is where you knit both sides of a double-sided piece of fabric at once -- so in this case i'm doing knit, purl, knit, purl, with two strands of different coloured yarn that i move back and forth with each stitch. the result is a very thick & warm reversible piece of cloth!

this tutorial on how to do it has some pictures that illustrate what it looks like.

Hi! *waves back* So happy to have you here! I've created a member tag for you to use whenever you post here, so you can look back at your successes ;)

thank you! :D

The trouble with scarves is that they're so LONG! *grins*

haha, RIGHT? I did once crochet the 4th Doctor's scarf...if I ever do that again I'm knitting it, because with crochet I had troubles keeping the edges straight and had to frog it 14 times. (this was before I knew how to knit, so I thought it would be better to stick to a craft I knew. HAR.)

this one I originally planned for 200 rows (50 of each colour) but almost done the second block now and I think it'll have to be double that. so might have to up it to 4 rows/day! XD (especially as I am actually terrible at doing the row count *every* day.)

Hello! I'm a hopeless non-knitter, so HOORAY on your progress! I also don't know what double knitting is. :p

haha, thank you!

double-knitting is basically knitting both sides of a piece of fabric at once so there's no "wrong" side to the fabric (as we often say in knitting; the back side of fabric is referred to as the wrong side). it's a reversible piece of work. this leads the way for some interesting colour work as well as you can reverse colours to make patterns.

this tutorial has some picture examples of what it looks like to make and as a finished project. it looks daunting, but I actually found it's one of the simpler fancy knitting techniques I've learned. just...needs more brain than I usually at the end of the day (when I do my knitting). XD

Wow, that looks pretty cool!

I *do* know what double knitting is, and it's something I've meant to try again, but for the difficulty of finding suitable yarn. Have you developed the ability to hold one yarn in either hand? I figured out how to knit European style with my left hand, and pearl English style with my right, and it helps *so* much.

I finally got the belt mounts onto the belt. The buckle and chape I think I posted a link to the lj blog post, but the mounts are now finished!! It was a total disaster, but it's nice now. My original plan of rivet-and-rove then peening completely didn't work as the mount posts were too close together, so I ended up just bending them over with pliers and gently tapping down a bit more. Totally stress the whole time that I would damage the enamel on the mounts. The whole thing looks great now, in time to wear on Saturday. I'll be doing a lj blog post about the success/failure/fix so it doesn't go the RSS feed here.

I'll post a link when I've done it for anyone who is keenly interested in How I Failed At Belt Mounts But Still Made An Amazing Belt.
