Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

Today's Question: No question today.

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

You are unstoppable! :)

I can imagine!

Well, the only other solution is to die young, and that isn't too good, either.

Same here, really.

You are a machine!

Shame about the rain stopping you from getting into the garden (mine could do with some work but I just don't have the time to even think about it). I'm sure it will rain here today as I have plans to go for a walk this evening (there is a special 'light the trees' event running for this week only in one of the local parks with the area illuminated and I think music - it sounded good and so I thought I would go with a friend fingers crossed for no rain or maybe only a little atmospheric drizzle!

Well done on the knitting progress, you're flying.

I've finished the first real page of Baby Book #3; working backwards because the fact that I can make a girly book inspired me very much. One page doesn't sound much, but you must take under consideration that while all those crafty women on YouTube can buy their tags, labels, embellishments, etc., ready-made and thematically sorted as paper pads, I have to make basically everything by hand.

So yes, it was a lot of very detailed work, but I'm fairly happy with the outcome, so it's all right.

Costs me a lot of time, though, and the outcome is never certain. These things require a lot of straight lines...

Unfortunately, they don't align so well with the rest, though.

One page is a lot! Especially if you are making everything yourself. *\o/*

It might take you longer but the end result is truly personalised and individual. I have to say it always amazes me what people have to hand that they've bought when you watch those kind of videos on Youtube.

Well done on your progress.

Yeah, it makes me so envious sometime. Especially as everyone seems to have a proper craft room, with everything right at hand and no need to put things away afterwards, which takes longer for me than the actual crafting. *g*

Starting to quite seriously rethink this 'backing'. Might turn it into a 'proper quilt', call it The Harry and enter it into the Sydney Quilt Show this year...

The backing

A question: do the 'added on' bits look too disparate from the original piece? Or am I just so accustomed to seeing the original patches that the new section looks out of place?
Thursday, February 16th, 2023 03:54 am (UTC)
I think it looks really cool.

I honestly don't know which is the new section, so I can't really answer the question.
Thursday, February 16th, 2023 06:34 am (UTC)
I think it looks lovely - there are no new and old sections as I see it, just a gorgeous whole.
Thursday, February 16th, 2023 05:07 pm (UTC)
I can't make out what's old and what's new either, but the whole thing is stunning.

Didn't have long but managed to do a little more painting while dinner was in the oven of what I shall loosely call the 'Northern Lights (interpretation). Still too early to tell whether it's going to be okay or better than okay, but at least it gives me a few minutes where I'm destressing by focusing completely on something that isn't the rest of life.
Thursday, February 16th, 2023 07:47 am (UTC)
Those destressing minutes are vital.
Thursday, February 16th, 2023 05:08 pm (UTC)
They are indeed!

Today, a friend of mine from my old book club lead a journal making class at the local library. My mom and I went and it was a lot of fun. The covers are leather and we sewed them together with a piece of driftwood reinforcing the spine.

No knitting today, but I did for several hours yesterday (the baby blanket is over half done now).

Thanks!

Wow, that is really cool! I remember how much I suffered from having no idea how to get things right when I started making journals. YouTube tutorials can be useful but they don't even come close to seeing the thing for real - and having someone to look over your shoulder and correct mistakes in time.

Thanks! So very true! I feel lucky that she plans on having a journal making class every other month at the library now (different kind of journal each time).
