Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

Today's Question: No question today.

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

Sorry to hear about the radiator problems. That's so annoying! Still, you've done well under the circumstances. Go you!
Friday, January 20th, 2023 07:56 pm (UTC)
Oh no, not heating related problems.

Eight meeces are waiting for their tail
Which have been delayed due to BK's loud wail
The radiator sucked
Its duty it's ducked
Much hard work will no doubt now entail

Sorry about the radiator problem, but yay for meeces progress!

I stared with the inner binding of the quiet book and managed to do 1/4 of the work, which is a great relief. Even though my fingers are a bit ruined again, and in some places I had to push the needle through with the help of the desktop and to pull it out with a pair of pliers. Ugh, I can't wait to be done with this phase entirely!

I'm not surprised that they are sore! Congrats on getting through so much of it.

Thanks. It's only 4 pages, but they are really thick and hard, with many layers, plus the cross-grain ribbon, so yeah, it's slave labour.

They're getting used to it, the poor things. I think part of the problem is that I found really good, hard felt this time, which is good for durability but torture for the fingers.

Yay, it's coming along!

God, I hope so! I'm looking forward to work with paper for a while.

The yarn to continue my cardigan arrives tomorrow, so I am just working on more scrap type projects. I didn't want to get into starting another thing.

Also today I made myself mend a shirt (less bad one, seams under the arms were weak). I have one more shirt on the mending pile at the moment, another I've decided to cut up for rags.
Friday, January 20th, 2023 09:26 pm (UTC)
One of the shirts is my "wear over other clothes while painting/messy tasks" so even though it needs a big patch, I think it's worth it. Less paint on other clothes.

Well done with the mending. It makes sense not to start something new when your yarn is almost with you.

It's a good time to make myself catch up this chore.

Small tasks are good to bridge over the gap between two phases of a certain project.

It's been too long since I have done any sewing. Mending shirts first then quilts later.

Nice

Working on the amigurumi for [community profile] snowflake_challenge. It's pretty big, though, so I doubt I'll finish today, but that's okay. So far I have one of the pieces done, but there's quite a bit left.

I had to buy yarn for it, which I might have not done if I hadn't gotten a gift card to Hobby Lobby for Christmas. I prefer not to give HL my money, but hey, this is other people's money, so might as well use the card. So I picked up a skein of turquoise acrylic. I have all the other colors needed in stash. Alas, they didn't have the safety eyes I needed but I can make do by crocheting eyes with floss - I have some black floss on hand.

The yarn section is very near the clearance section so I took a peek and fond a needle/wet felting book marked down dramatically. Regular price was 19.99, I got it for 1.99. SCORE! I've done some needle felting before - the library gave out kits for it - but it'll be fun to read a book on it.

Carbuncle, a summon creature from the Final Fantasy video game series. This is the one I'm making:

Oh, this is cute!

If someone's already bought the card it would be a waste not to use it and hooray for a real bargain!

Excellent score

I had two books for Christmas with alphabet charts (I did say I'd like them) and I'm happily choosing ones to stitch.

I have a number from magazines too. A bit before Christmas there was a sale of books at my favourite crafting books website and as I never know what to ask SM for I gave him a list!
