Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

Today's Question: No question today.

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

Grrr, chores! Perhaps the telly will help motivating you?
Friday, January 13th, 2023 07:50 pm (UTC)
That sounds wonderful! Enjoy!
Saturday, January 14th, 2023 12:07 am (UTC)
Hope it's been good music!

The chores have been a pain
Of creativity they're a drain
But there's TV tonight
Which with any luck might
Mean that BK is knitting again
Saturday, January 14th, 2023 10:19 am (UTC)
I hope you got to at least enjoy your TV time tonight.
Sunday, January 15th, 2023 07:14 am (UTC)
Nice!

The quiet book is taking shape. I've edged all the sides that won't get cross-grain binding - that sounds like great progress, but in fact, it's just blanket stitch that will end up invisible under the "spine" of the book, so basically the quick(er) and easy(er) part of the work. I also did a bit of the cross-grain binding, which is where the undoing of rows became necessary. FOUR times!

Coming up: more of that unpleasant, tedious and boring work, stitching through four to seven layers of hard felt, lining stuff, double-sided tape and the likes.

Unfortunately, that happens every time at this phase. Well, the only way forward is the way through.
Friday, January 13th, 2023 09:09 pm (UTC)
You will get there, and it will be all worth it, just totally tedium on the way!
Friday, January 13th, 2023 09:47 pm (UTC)
Exactly!
Friday, January 13th, 2023 11:48 pm (UTC)
Undoing. *shudder* So frustrating and just bleeds out your desire to work on the project.

Good luck with the rest of the cross-grain binding and may you have no more undoings required!
Saturday, January 14th, 2023 04:52 pm (UTC)
That would be nice, but I don't put my hopes too high.
Saturday, January 14th, 2023 12:08 am (UTC)
Oh no, better luck with less undoing next!
Saturday, January 14th, 2023 04:54 pm (UTC)
I wish!
Saturday, January 14th, 2023 10:24 am (UTC)
Progress is progress!

The tedium will be worth it in the end, you just have to make it through the horrible to get to the "look at the cool thing I (you) made" part.

...I might also be binging too many children's cartoons.
Saturday, January 14th, 2023 04:53 pm (UTC)
There is nothing wrong with children's cartoons. I used to like them a lot - before everything turned either anime-style or Simpsons-style. I find both ugly and off-putting.

I've not been doing any crafting but inspired by [community profile] snowflake_challenge I thought I'd check in - I've been spending all my spare time writing and have made excellent progress on my to-do list of projects. I'm down to one more smaller project before I sink into a bigger one. And maybe I'll get back to knitting soon! I'd like those slippers, after all.
Saturday, January 14th, 2023 12:09 am (UTC)
That sounds great!
Saturday, January 14th, 2023 10:25 am (UTC)
Excellent! That is great :)

Today I am GOING to start sorting the study. Even if it's "gentle cleaning":
- put things that belong here that are out of place in place
- put things that don't belong here into a box/bag
- put rubbish into the bin
- shred what needs to be shredded
- file the papers (because they've been unfiled for waaaay too long)

Also: at least one more Trip Around The World Block because I've had the strips laid out for three days now and no inspiration to do.

(Sorry, this is more of a to-do list than a 'done' comment.)
Friday, January 13th, 2023 11:49 pm (UTC)
I did get through something entirely unrelated: the taking-apart (including digging out the dirt and weights) of a garden box, and the moving of said box to another point in the garden.
Saturday, January 14th, 2023 12:12 am (UTC)
LOL! But you got something done.
Friday, January 13th, 2023 10:35 pm (UTC)
Well, it always starts with a to-do list, doesn't it?
Friday, January 13th, 2023 11:49 pm (UTC)
I'm finding the 'to do' list is useful in getting me to do something else entirely. But I'll take it!
Saturday, January 14th, 2023 10:26 am (UTC)
Good luck *\o/*

Worked on the cardigan some. Started the self-striping leftover yarn which is more fun than gray.

I made brownies to offer the workers at John's house tomorrow for a second weekend of cleanup. Cross your fingers that it goes as well as last time, because that will mean the majority of the debris is gone from the house. I'll be on tea & cocoa duty again.

Saturday, January 14th, 2023 10:27 am (UTC)
Fingers officially crossed
Saturday, January 14th, 2023 04:54 pm (UTC)
Mine, too.

Back to knitting today!

For today's stitch and stream, I watched The Bob's Burgers Movie and I started watching Hilda. On the scarf, I've finished the 2x2 ribbing section and am back to doing the garter ridge pattern, so approximately 3 inches into that section and 29 inches into the scarf in total.

I also tried to see if I could get a size #13/9mm circular needle, at least 36 inches long locally, but the only place in town that sells knitting needles only sells one size of circular needles and they are #8/5mm and only 18 inches long. So, it looks like I will be ordering them online.

Thanks!

It's for a very large, chunky blanket. The pattern recommends at least 36 inches. I think the cast on is 102 stitches, or something close to that. It's a simple blanket though. The whole thing is just a seed stitch pattern with twisted tassels you add at the end on two sides.

Yeah, I admit I'm a little concerned about the weight, but it seemed like a nice, long term project, I could keep on hand to keep up knitting practice (and to make sure I had something to work on when I need to stress knit). Also, definitely looking forward to the snuggly bit!
