Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

Today's Question: Do you have any crafting plans or ambitions for 2023?

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

I have two quiet books to finish this year. Other than that I'm planning to make cards using paper embroidery as well as a complex project about Christmas gnomes; the ones coming from Scandinavia, called Nisse. That will include the gnomes themselves, small booklets with stories about them, gnome doors behind which they supposedly live during the weeks before Christmas... and I'll see what else comes with them. *g*

As for today, I only managed one third of the planned crafting. At least my jellyfish is done, and I've cut out the front panel of the little crab. Better than nothing.

How many sweaters are that? You'll be able to open up your own shop, soon. *g*

I have been doing French knot after French knot for a current project. Probably a few dozen, and I'm a third of the way through? I refuse to count in case I lose my nerve, heh.

I have one big goal for the year, which is to prep for my art show in August. I have one BIG thing planned, with a couple of other small ideas, and otherwise I'm just asking some of my friends to send back their presents for a week so I can display them and then return them!

Your own art show? Wow, that sounds exciting!

I have a very exhaustive set of resolutions for 2023 broken down by section and I do, indeed, have a section for crafting! My crafting ambitions/resolutions are:

  1. Knit six pairs of socks
  2. Knit two jumpers
  3. Complete one stranded knitting project
  4. Complete one cable knitting project
  5. Complete one lace knitting project
  6. Complete weaving project every month
  7. Complete crochet project every month
  8. Complete one afghan
  9. Complete one WIP for every new project started
  10. Keep Ravelry up to date including photographs of projects
  11. Buy no new yarn unless for specific project (calculate necessary yardage ahead of time)
  12. Finish sewing 18th century pocket
  13. Start and finish sewing pirate shirt

My main projects are a cross stitch Golden Lily by J H Dearle (similar idea to the Morris Strawberry Thief in my icon) which I've just started and suspect will take me until the end of August - when I can start next year's Christmas stitching!! Plus I have a ball of wool to make something for Mini Hobbit, which I'm hoping to begin tonight. Then there'll also be the odd birthday card etc to make.

I want to weave more, and find a neat crochet project, most likely in the autumn. I plan on continuing journaling and I have been working on the first few pages of the year. This is the only crafting I have done today.

Perhaps this year is the year I re-learn sewing? I do want to learn to use a sewing machine again to do simple stuff.

My crafting goal this year is craft more consistently! I've been very on and off, and when I'm on it's been mostly mindless things which is totally fine--mindless knitting sometimes saves my sanity... but it's not all I want to do ^_^

My hubs got me a couple of new crewelwork embroidery kits for Christmas. I mean, they'll probably cool their heels in my stash with my other two dozen+ embroidery/cross stitch kits, but I'd like to think I can actually make some process. I'd like to pull out my spinning wheel at least once a season rather than once a year, too!

And I'd really, really like to figure out where the fairies absconded off with my knitting needles because I have a huge box of wool for jumper knitting and nothing to knit them with! I even tidied my craft room over the Christmas holiday and they didn't turn up so who knows... I'll probably just give up and buy a new set.

You and me, too. Even if my Louise is only a 20cmx20cm baby sewing machine.

And as soon as you've bought that new set, all the old ones will resurface at once. That's the nature of things. *sigh*

One can't start Christmas stitching too early. Even if it's just paper embroidery, like in my case. *g*

That's an intimidating list and no mistake!

I’m counting on that šŸ˜‚

I didn't make any this year, but I have, in the past, made very simple Korknisse to hang on the tree. Your Nisse sound a lot more involved!

I might cheat and count projects that are more than half finished towards my various goals if I get them done in 2023, haha. I have several pairs of socks that are within a half sock of completion, for example. I think maybe the hardest one on there is not buying any new yarn >.>

My new year crafting plans include

-knitting up the dress pattern that I bought yarn & pattern for my birthday of 2022.

- mending my existing clothes with handsewing and visible mending.

- finish my scarf that I'm currently working on.

- make more scarves or hats to use up the yarn.
