Yesterday I reached 50 rows on my first brown and pink variegated arm warmer and stopped there because I didn't know how far the ball and a half I'd got would stretch. I'd started that one with the complete ball, so today I started the second arm warmer using the half ball.


I'm 76 rows in and there's not much left, should reach 80 rows though, maybe 82. The thing is, because it's variegated yarn and I'd already used part of this ball on meeces, this arm warmer looks totally different from the first one, so they're not going to match at all. In fact this second one is a lot prettier than the first. Very strange.


I bought some more rainbow yarn yesterday, two different colour variations, hoping to make myself some more cheerful arm warmers — not that I NEED more, but now I'm wondering how to get the effect I'm getting on the one I'm knitting now with the others. Hm, maybe if I start from the inside of the ball instead of the outside...

The rainbow yarn sounds very pretty, but I can see the potential problem with non-matching arm warmers.

I don't really mind them not matching, not with this first pair anyway, but the colour change effect on the second one is so much more attractive than on the first. Both balls have the same batch number so it literally must be a case of where I started with each one.

The second is now done except for casting off because I either have to cast off with a bit of yarn from the other ball or unpick two rows. I'll probably unpick, because thanks to my complete inability to estimate the amount of yarn remaining, instead on managing 82 rows, I have 96.

That is the problem with new ideas: they are so very addictive.

I'm doing exactly the same as I did with the first arm warmer, but with multicoloured yarn, the effect changes depending on where you start on the colour progression. You never know how the colours will arrange themselves until you start knitting. Getting two that look exactly the same would be very difficult, maybe even impossible.

And each skein may not be consistent.

I like variegated though.

True. Same dye lot though, so at least the colours look the same.

Variegated is pretty.

I've written my Christmas cards and decorated the envelopes. They'll be posted tomorrow - some of them with a little felt ornament as a Christmas gift.

I'll probably take a break from any serious crafting until Christmas; I definitely need a bit of rest. Well, I might be *thinking* about the quiet book I'm working at, looking up ideas and patterns and all that...

It feels like that, yes. I had very intense weeks - well, months, really - making stuff for the fair, so I'll just lean back for a while and enjoy being lazy.

Earlier I worked on stretching those giant stars on hoops. It looks okay. Probably won't hang them until the weekend, it will be warmer and I'm going to clean the porch.

Otherwise just making dishcloths in between chores. I started trying to deep clean the living room today.

Sounds like you're keeping yourself busy! I'm sure warmer weather will be welcome. I'm at -5C at present.

Warmer being relative, it's going to be 40F/4C but sunny.

Sunny is good. 4C isn't too bad.

We've got -6C forecast for tonight, rising gradually over a few days to 13C on Monday o_O Then it's actually forecasting snow for Christmas Day, which I don't think I've ever seen, and it probably won't happen anyway.

Grrrr, cleaning! We're having the pre-Christmas cleaning frenzy next Monday.

But dishcloths are good. I wish I could make dishcloths, as mine all have burned holes in them. I really ought to learn how to crochet.

I started a new scarf to go along with a few hats I've made. It's basic but enjoying it.

One motif done today so far. I'm going to do at least one more after dinner, and I *might* try to squeeze in another half motif after that. That's because on Saturday I have plans for most of the day and I don't think I'm going to find much time to crochet. So, if I can do an extra half motif tonight, plus on Thursday and Friday, that will leave just one half to do Saturday to reach my output goals for this week.
