Check-In Post September 30th 2022

Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.
Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

Today's Question: No question today.

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

The weather's been miserable here today, too. Hooray for meece progress and the wallflowers, though!

Well, you've still made some progress, so the day isn't completely lost. And yay for the perky wallflowers.

It's super dry and breezy here. The wallflowers will like the rain to get established.

Walked down to the shopping centre today in pouring rain and gusting wind, but I have acquired a paintbrush! Got some writing done, but no crafting. Tomorrow's my husband's birthday so I'm baking a cake but probably won't be doing anything else productive at all.

What kind of cake are you planning to bake?

A hummingbird cake! I made one a few months ago and he liked it so much he requested it again for his birthday :D

I never made a hummingbird cake. Is it difficult? Do you have an idiot-proof recipe? I'd like to give it a try one day.

It's pretty simple! I've been using this recipe for the cake; the cardamom isn't traditional but I really think it makes it. This is a more classic recipe that I haven't tried myself, but my mum recommends it. I'm still trying to perfect the cream cheese frosting but I got closer trying the frosting from the latter link. UK cream cheese is a lot softer than US cream cheese so I haven't quite got the consistency I want. Still workshopping that, but at least it tastes good!

Oh, thank you! I won't be able to make it for my birthday, since it's so close, but I'll definitely give it a try later.

Have fun making the cake!

Success!

I've finished the quiet book page with the Christmas gift boxes and started a new one, based on this tutorial. Mine will be very different, though - without the fluorescent stars, which I couldn't get here - not the right size ones anyway - but with pine trees, a squirrel, a rabbit and a pair of foxes instead. I've already finished the page base and fixed some of the appliances; I think I'll be done with it during the weekend. It went better than hoped.

It worked out quite well, fortunately.

Creatures instead of stars sounds fun to me!

To me, too. After all, templates are for inspiration, not for making exact copies.

I love the replacements you're making for the stars, it sounds like it'll be an adorable page!

It came together rather nicely, if I say so myself.;)

I frogged what I started of the basket yesterday and am happier with the second draft so far. Nearly have the bottom complete.

Husband came home unexpectedly on his lunch feeling unwell. He got multiple vaccinations yesterday. Made him soup and grilled cheese. I think the dog looks more comfortable this afternoon as well (stretched out napping instead of all scrunched up).

I'm glad the second draft is going better and that the dog is doing well. I hope your husband feels better soon, too!

Multiple vaccinations sound horrible. Good luck with the second draft!
