Hello to all members, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

Note: I'm just jumping in for [personal profile] badly_knitted while she is having computer problems. Therefore the daily check-in posts might lack certain details. Please, bear with me, and happy crafting!

I went outside for a little while, cutting back brambles. Had just nipped indoors when the doorbell rang - it was my neighbours, asking if I knew anything about squirrels. Well, I know about as much as the next person who's had them raiding the bird food, but I went out anyway. They had a young and totally fearless little squirrel scratching around in their driveway and had no idea what to do with it. Then it tried to climb my neighbour's leg, must have mistaken him for a tree, An easy mistake since he's about 6 foot 7. Poor guy had to coax squirrel onto his hand and take it to an actual tree. No idea what happened after that.

In other news, I now have a new computer, 512GB which will hopefully be enough memory. Now I have to transfer all my files to it, which is going to take a while.

Could you do the post tomorrow? After that I'm hoping I'll have my files transferred, but I haven't tested out the internet and posting on the new computer yet. It's a different version of windows, everything is unfamiliar, and I've been fumbling around trying to find everything. I couldn't even find the on switch at first. Turns out it's a key on the keyboard now. And then I had to find out how to turn it off... I'm getting there slowly, but I do wish the computer designers wouldn't keep changing basic things like layout and menus. It's like they want to make it as difficult as possible for the older generation to adapt.

Okay, thanks, I could probably use a few more days to figure some things out. (This is the old computer speaking, lol.) I got half my files transferred today, but there are others I still need to get off some other storage devices, including all my music files. Setting up a new computer is a big job.

Ah, the endless bramble war. We are very familiar with that as well.

Well, that's a unique experience for your neighbor!

Brambles have their uses, but not when they take over.

He was rather confounded. It was a cute squirrel, but if it survives it's going to be a troublemaker!

What a ridiculous squirrel incident! My husband is always offended that the area squirrels are not afraid of him? Who knows.

Good luck with the new computer.

There was another, possibly bigger squirrel further up the road, so maybe that was a parent, but if so, it should have been teaching the little one how to squirrel safely. Randomly climbing people is a bad idea *grins*

Thanks. It'll take some getting used to. Everything is different and I don't adapt well to change, I'm too old. I get easily confused.

Squirrels can be an adventure.

Good luck with your new computer.

They certainly can!

Thank you, I'll need it. I hate the way they change everything when they bring out a new version of windows and I can't find a damn thing. I had to use search just to find Windows Media Player. God knows what else is on there that's not immediately accessible.

It is definitely annoying for sure.

And now I learn that I only have MS office for 5 days after which I have to PAY, and I only want to use Word! All computers should come with a free word processor program the way the used to. I shell out a huge amount of money on a computer, I expect it to have everything I need, not to have to spend even more!

It's highway robbery, I swear. I had the same problem with my last computer and some friends that are more tech savvy than I pointed me towards safe, open source versions of word. I was using open office and I have a friend who uses Libra. This was quite awhile ago, but they or something like it should be available now. (I will soon be going through this as well as my computer died in June after MANY years of service and I am having trouble getting a replacement. I wish you luck.)

Thank you, I'll look into those options.

Windows 11 is a huge departure from Windows 10, so check it out beforehand if you can. Everything is in the wrong place. Even the button for turning on my computer is a key on the keyboard, although that might just be the kind of laptop I bought, it might not be standard. I was so baffled though!

Glad to be of help. Sorry I doubled up on the suggestion.

That is and excellent idea. I'm coming to it from windows 7, so I knew I would be confused, but I hadn't even considered looking at things beforehand. That would definitely help.

Not a problem, all advice is welcome.

Yikes! That will be a big jump, Windows has gone through a lot of changes since then. I went from XP to Windows 10 a couple of years back, and that was hard, and now Windows 11 is so radically different from anything that came before that I'm struggling. Good luck!

:)

Thanks. Not going to lie, I'm a bit scared. Luckily, out library has a tech help day, so it's slightly less scary.

I wish you luck as well!

Technology is scary stuff. I hope the tech help day proves helpful.

Thanks, my computer and I are learning each other ;)

Aww, I hope the sweet little squirrel is okay.

Hooray for the new computer! I hope transferring files goes smoothly and complication-free.

So do I. My big fear is that it will get run over because it doesn't understand the concept of danger.

Thanks, I'll need it. Everything is different and in the wrong places. I'm not good with change, so I'm finding it all confusing and I haven't even tried opening an internet window yet. Hoping that at least will be familiar. Also that MS Word will be the same.
