Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.
Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

Today's Question: No question today.

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

I've worked on my little angel felts today. Folded and stitched together the grey bodies, sewed on the hangings and the silver wings, applied 4 tiny, star-shaped sequins in the form of a tiara to all 8 heads, made the eyes and even stitched together 7 out of 8 heads. Now if I could only find a good way to sew on the heads without them sticking out in an odd angle! I'll have to try various methods tomorrow.

My goodness you seem to be very busy, looking over the last several check ins. May I ask what it is you're making? it sounds like a mammoth project overall.

Actually, I'm just trying to find ways to use up all the little rests from my big projects (= the 3 quiet books I made this summer). But should we really manage to have our pre-Christmas charity fair at the school where I used to work before my retirement this year, I'll have lots of items to sell. *fingers crossed*

Wow, you are making great progress. Hopefully the head situation will be an easy fix.

Good progress, good luck on the heads!

You have battled well today.

Poor you! *sends good healing vibes*

I am very impressed at your dedication tbh. We really need to get to our garden to deal with the grass we let grow wild before winter sets in and it gets too cold to clean it up, but it's been either too hot or too cold or too wet. brrr.

This does not sound like much fun. I hate being wedged in because you have to back out with your armload of pulled up stuff.

Oh no, in the hedge too? I cut volunteer saplings out of mine but that's not ivy.

I haven't really done anything yet today, but it's foreign film night at the library so I don't want to forget about it.

Yesterday, my nephew came over to drop something off for my mom/his grandmother and he saw me knitting. He asked, "Since when do you knit?"

I said, "About three days now."

He looked so confused, lol.

I also managed to successfully get a post up on Instagram for the 100 Days of Halloween Happy challenge. Woohoo!

When I get back from the library, I hope to do today's challenge for the September Stampede at bitesizedcleaning and see if I can figure out how to purl.

Ha, does he not think that "old" people can learn new things, only little kids? Have fun at the library.

Lol, it's probably something like that.

Thanks :)

I will! And if that doesn't work, I'll just tell him it's mandatory now that I am going to be a great aunt. (I just found out one of my nieces is going to have a baby. Still wrapping my head around that one.)

Thanks!

:D

Thanks:)

It is healthy for the young ones to realize that we oldies aren't incapable of learning new things.

Indeed!

Today I ordered yarn for a third blanket (for my wheelchair) which I'll work on whenever I get fed up of the repetition of the other two blankets I'm currently working on. They're all very good tv knitting so it should be easy to switch between them but it does mean they get to be a bit of a drag if I can't switch it up.

The yarn for the one I was in the middle of has been shipped though, so it will probably arrive tomorrow so I can get that one set up. In the meantime I've been knitting up log cabin squares in Noro Kureyon and watching Dimension 20 between doing chores around the house. Think I'm going to do a little digital art before bed.

A good day overall! My post-covid cough is nearly gone, too, so I'm hoping in a few days I'll feel well enough to change up the chore:knitting ratio a little more in favour of chores. We've been keeping the house from getting unhygenic while in recovery but it could do with a real going over. You know you've been sick for too long when you're excited to put some elbow grease into it.

Glad you're doing better!

Thanks!

Post-covid cough is really unpleasant. I wish you a swift and complete recovery - and lots of fun with crafting and cleaning (is the latter even possible?).

I worked in the flowerbed off and on today. Dug down carefully around two of the roses to break up the clay, spread a thick layer of the new topsoil and mixed it in. I'm about 1/3 of the way done with the main flowerbed.

There were hyacinth and tulip bulbs in this area, so I dug them up before I spread the new dirt. Of course, I managed to split all 3 of the flame orange, double tulip bulbs with my trowel. Hopefully one will make it.

I think I will read this evening and give my hands a rest.

Shame about the split bulbs - but perhaps they'll survive. *fingers crossed*

Just sewing the armholes on the pink kirtle and cooking fennel pottage since it's a rainy day.
Sunday, September 4th, 2022 12:16 pm (UTC)
According to medieval cooking, pottage is anything cooked... in a pot. So, stews, porridge, anything chunky or thicker than a soup, counts. It's very easy and delicious. Get as much fennel as you want, cut the whole thing up, add water, pepper if you like, onion can be added (but it's nice with just fennel) and cook until soft. Mash it up. Voila, pottage. The medieval recipe says to add almond milk, saffron and cinnamon, but hmmmmm.

You never work on just one thing, do you? ;)

Sometimes I really need to think about things, and keeping busy on another project helps.
