Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.
Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

Today's Question: No question today.

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

Deadlines can be both inspiring and utterly frustrating. Wishing you good writing vibes.

*cheers you on*
Sunday, August 28th, 2022 06:47 am (UTC)
Good luck with the writing!
Sunday, August 28th, 2022 11:33 am (UTC)
Making headway at least!
Saturday, August 27th, 2022 07:38 pm (UTC)
Two more Nativity scenes are finished and all hangings are sewed on. It's the boring part; I can't wait to go back to my penguins. *g*
Sunday, August 28th, 2022 04:17 pm (UTC)
I can't wait. Penguins are so much more fun!
Sunday, August 28th, 2022 12:49 am (UTC)
soon! penguins soon!
Sunday, August 28th, 2022 04:18 pm (UTC)
Yep, that is the plan. Even though this batch of penguins wasn't originally planned. I've just produced too much felt rests with the Nativity scenes that I want to put to good use.
Sunday, August 28th, 2022 11:33 am (UTC)
You're making good progress! The penguins sounds pretty cute though.
Sunday, August 28th, 2022 04:19 pm (UTC)
They *are* very cute. And fairly easy to make, which is a definite advantage.

I've been making some progress on my shawl. It's easier than cross stitching since I don't follow patterns when I crochet -- I just pick a stitch and go lol. But I think I have to undo the last few rows as I think I may have dropped a few too many stitches. I also have to soon get more wool for it; I had three for this project, but I think it's shaping up to be a 5 or 6 skein project :D
Saturday, August 27th, 2022 10:27 pm (UTC)
Maybe one day I'll learn how to read a pattern lol.

It would help if I learned to count stitches :D But it was a learning lesson for my stitch work so I can't be too upset about it
Sunday, August 28th, 2022 12:50 am (UTC)
yay for progress!
Sunday, August 28th, 2022 08:11 pm (UTC)
Thanks!
Sunday, August 28th, 2022 06:46 am (UTC)
Yay for progress. I love finding a crochet pattern I love which is also just a repeat all the way. I like things being easy!
Sunday, August 28th, 2022 08:10 pm (UTC)
Thanks! Yeah crochet is pretty straight forward as projects go.
Sunday, August 28th, 2022 11:34 am (UTC)
Hopefully you won't need to undo!
Sunday, August 28th, 2022 08:10 pm (UTC)
Well I did but it wasn't too bad. And it's an easy fix really since it's crochet.

Hi there! Haven't been around for a week because it was NEW PATCH DAY in my MMO, and I was busy (a) finishing up an event that ended prior to patch day, (b) actually playing the patch on the day it dropped (it was delightful!), (c) leveling a job to 71 so I could use it to host a party Friday night.

Now that that's done with, I can refocus and go back to my crafts. Today I finished another kerchief, and made 3 bookmarks. I'm about to sit down and do more crafting for about an hour. Unsure what exactly I'll do - maybe more bookmarks? - but I'll do something.

I do have slight guilt that I basically ignored my crafts for a week, but honestly, I probably needed the break. I know my hands/wrists appreciated it.
Sunday, August 28th, 2022 12:50 am (UTC)
I hope the break turns out to have been exactly what you needed!
Sunday, August 28th, 2022 04:20 pm (UTC)
Errr... what, exactly, is New Patch Day? I never heard about such a thing before; of course, I'm just an ignorant foreigner...

Giving your hands/wrists a break is definitely a good thing, though.

Okay, so Final Fantasy XIV is an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game), which basically means that unlike a single-player game, there's no end to it. It keeps continuing. New Patch Day is the day that new content is released for players to enjoy. It's called "patch" because that's the technical term for snippets of computer code added to a program. In this case, it was a major patch: we got new quests in the Main Scenario story, along with tons of other updates and upgrades. One of the things added was Island Sanctuary, which is like a Stardew Valley/Animal Crossing hybrid. Very exciting.

Final Fantasy XIV is just celebrating its 9th anniversary, and the producer/director wants to keep it going for at least another 10 years. Which makes me happy because it's the best Final Fantasy I've ever played (and I've played all of the main series).

Oh, I see. Thank you.

I took a couple of days break from knitting to host my husband's cousin and her family. They have a toddler who is both darling and exhausting, and who has been struggling to deal with change in routine so has been a bit more fractious than usual.

I'm enjoying having them here but absolutely exhausted, looking longingly at my knitting bag. They leave on Monday morning and I think we'll spend the whole day after they leave in bed!
Sunday, August 28th, 2022 12:51 am (UTC)
oh, man, toddlers, great but SO much energy.
Sunday, August 28th, 2022 11:35 am (UTC)
Bed is a great place to be tbh.

I have been away from DW for a few days due to work an my upcoming move (I close TUESDAY, what is this world), but I have been doing some stress stitching: a project I haven't photographed yet and more of my Schitt's Creek cross-stitch!
Sunday, August 28th, 2022 06:43 am (UTC)
I love the colours of the Schitt's Creek cross stitch. I plan on starting on season 4 today actually.

Good luck with the move!

I finished my scarf - and hopefully autumn weather will come when we go into autumn in a few days. Later summer have been quite hot and I'm not a fan.

It has already gotten chilly actcually, like turning a swich. Of course it might not last, but perhaps it will. A pupil of mine mentioned snow today when he tried to talk me into letting them go outside to play.
Friday, September 2nd, 2022 07:32 pm (UTC)
I do live in Norway, but no that is not common (except up in the mountains), but next month certainly it can happen. I don't personally need any snow until November/December though.
Sunday, August 28th, 2022 11:35 am (UTC)
Success! Cooler days ahead soon enough.
Friday, September 2nd, 2022 07:11 pm (UTC)
Yay! They have already come. I hope they stick around, not that I need fully colder weather just yet, but a but chilly is good.

Photo of the brown kirtle buttons in action! Well worth the effort!
