Check-In Post January 1st 2021

Hello to all members, Happy New Year and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

Today's Question: It's the start of a brand new year, so what are your 2021 crafting goals?

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

My goal is to do some form of craft every day. Today I did s little cross stitch and failed to do any knitting.

I think my crafting goals this year are quite small - just to do the test squares for my illusion scarves - I started on the Stargate scarf piece and had to frog it like three times lol so it's already not going well.

Anything beyond that is gravy.

A little crafting every day is an excellent goal. You can do it!

That's really frustrating (multiple frogs). :/

After the 3 WIPs, I have 2 baby blankets to make. Most of the stuff after that is nebulous, but I want to make a Link hat for BIL's birthday in August.

I've been watching sales and now have bought yarn for both baby blankets. I didn't get as far as crafting. A storm dumped 5 inches of snow on us this morning & I had to shovel this afternoon.

Yes. It depends how much time I have and how long I spend on something.

Sounds like you have plenty of options of what you can do.

Sometimes there are other priorities which can't helped.

Swatched for a second set of mittens yesterday and quickly realised the yarn is alllll wrong and it was the same yarn line I was going to use for a scarf that also won't work how I though, but have instead found a lovely lace scarf that should work out okay in it instead I think. That'll teach me to buy pretty yarns on sale without thinking about the fibre content though.

This year I'm hoping to keep up the knitting and continue branching out into bigger projects and new techniques. If I could maintain my knitting trajectory from 2020 I'll be a very happy camper. I also have a bunch of embroidery things I bought late last year and still haven't put to use, and I want to work on my handsewing and mending skills.

My first goal is to finish all my WIPs--I think I have 4 at the moment.
I want to knit a beaded project (something I've never done before).
I want to spin more--aim for 15 minutes a day. However I've also decided that for the first week of 2021, I'm not making myself do anything. I want a week of doing next to nothing--or at least not planning anything.

Ha, will it though?

My sewing skills are terrible. Another thing I should do this year is decide what in the sewing pile just needs to go.

I imagine 15 minutes can get a lot done on spinning. Even if one day is just sorting your materials and tools.

I thought of that yesterday when my clothes were wet and my feet were cold. If I hadn't had a warm couch to go back to it wouldn't have been possible.

Finish the embroidery on a summer dress I abandoned because there was nowhere to go to wear it... Try nagi's tatted dragon pattern. Make next year's Christmas cards and some birthday cards too. Finish the rest of my Christmas place mats after hammering my sewing machine into submission. Learn more techniques in Photoshop from an online friend who is expert. (This is in between the writing commitments.)
