Still no time for crafting at the moment, but I'm relishing this spell of actual summery weather. Spent all afternoon in the garden, fighting the rambling rose, and I thought I'd managed to pull down all of the bits draped over the top of the conifer, but there's still a clump up there. I don't know if it's still attached to anything, I suppose I'll find out over the next few days. If it shrivels up then it's a bit that broke off. If it doesn't, I'll have to figure out which branch it's attached to. There's still some rose that's in the way around the edges of the conifer canopy — this is a spreading tree rather than a straight one — so maybe the annoying bit is part of one of those.

Are you sure that rose isn't some malevolent, plant-based alien, hell-bent to take over the Earth?

If it is, it's not doing a very good job. So far all it's succeeded in doing is temporarily invading a tree...

The rose on my toes would be better than the conifer branch bouncing off my head... It was only a small one though, didn't do any harm.

There's a saying that goes The Devil makes work for idle hands. Yup, he creates chores for us to do.

And so we can't be not-idle in areas where we'd really like to *do* things.

They are the bane of my existence. If I knew my retirement would look like this, I might have decided to keep working. *Might* being the key word here. After 40 years in education I was pretty much wrung out at the end.

I learned the double stitch in crochet! I've added a few rows. I'm not sure why my project has developed a "curl", but I haven't dropped any stitches yet. I'm still unsure how exactly I'm gonna turn this into a shawl, but I'm making progress!

That's great that you've learned double stitch and been able to use it. I'm sure it will make a lovely shawl once you've finished.

YAY! Well done!

Knitting and crochet do weird things. Hopefully when the shawl is done, blocking and pressing will take care of any inadvertent curling. Or you could just have a curly shawl =D

A quiet day today, so I've been able to make progress on both mini Hobbit's mermaid cardi as well as cross stitching for a couple of cards.

I've been working on the new piece I started last night, and had to go to Joann's for a couple of shades of floss I didn't have, so I got all the floss for my next project while I was there too. And I was very glad I brought the pictures I'm using for the patterns with me, because I changed several shades on the fly based on what I could see once I was looking at the floss and not the color card!

Very sensible taking the picture with you. Shade cards are fine for some things, but full skeins give a better idea of what looks right together.
