Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

Today's Question: No question today.

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

Are you actually getting faster and more productive rather than slowing down?
Tuesday, January 18th, 2022 10:49 pm (UTC)

I created my 200th Frankenbeanie, and managed to create a few more in 2021 than I did in 2020.

Craftwise I had a pretty productive Christmas holiday, followed almost immediately by a positive COVID19 test and another ten days inside.

I've got another day to go but am running out of ideas, so tomorrow I think I'll dig through my supplies and see what I fancy working on for my final hours in quarantine.

February 9th will be the two year anniversary of making my very first mashups; since my first two creations were a jackalope and a cerberus, I think it'd be cool to make the another pair to mark the date.

I also need to think up names for a bunch of my little dudes, and also come up with a better creature description for some of them...

(and my scrapbag is getting out of control again so another inventory and a push to use up the parts is probably in order)

It's been a while!

Touch wood, I'm free and clear now and I was double vaxxed when I caught it (really unfortunate timing, as my booster was booked for 11/1 and I tested positive on 10/1) so I mostly had a cold with a few extra bits. The crafting and a lot of True Blood took my mind off it quite nicely!

Nearly there with your isolation and then you'll be free again. Sounds like you've been able to keep yourself occupied though.

Free since noon today, I was *extremely* chatty when i got back to th office. I think even the resident chatty guy was getting tired of me!

Sorry about your positive Covid test. But you put the solitude to good use, so your time wasn't wasted.

Plus I have some cute new friends now!

They're so cute!!

:D thank you!

Today I made the second page of the baby book. I only forgot one detail (which I can add to a different page) and made one stupid mistake (which I could easily correct). So I consider that a success.

I'm glad I spotted it in time.
Wednesday, January 19th, 2022 12:13 am (UTC)
Sounds like you did well - catching mistakes at the easy to correct stage is a bonus
Wednesday, January 19th, 2022 04:24 pm (UTC)
That is true!
Wednesday, January 19th, 2022 07:45 am (UTC)
Indeed! And it's not a mistake if it's an original creation by you anyway.
Wednesday, January 19th, 2022 10:49 am (UTC)
Well, glueing on the patterned paper upside down does count as a mistake in my book. ;)) fortunately, I could turn around the entire piece and this save the day. Had I already fixed the pocket onto the page base it would have been worse.

I've finished the first side of the sweater - I only had a couple of rows to go so kept crocheting longer than I should have done really.

Woo hoo! progress!

Firstly, crewelwork kit I finished on the weekend:

I was going to continue to work on the Dragon of Indecision cross stitch, but I was pretty rock bottom low last night due to personal and work frustrations so although I’d planned to push to make progress on the DoI for the rest of the month before starting something new, I decided to start something new anyway because I needed some joy.

This is a cute “miniature” kit that uses embroidery combined with scraps of organza to fun effect. For scale, the entire green overlay is smaller than my “mini” iPhone.

Of that's really lovely!!
Wednesday, January 19th, 2022 08:15 am (UTC)
The crewel work looks amazing and I love the effects you're creating with your miniature kit - it's looking impressive already.
Wednesday, January 19th, 2022 04:57 pm (UTC)
The mini isn’t too fiddly once you get a few stitches into the organza (it’s pinned in place before that, but I ditched the pins pretty much as soon as I could).

I like the instant effect it has on the piece, I may have to play with the idea for other things later. At the moment I’m trying to stay with kits to keep my crafting “simple” as when I try to design things I get way too grandiose, but at some point I will be inclined to create my own…

Oh my gosh the miniature is so lovely!

No crafting again, but more website upgrading while I'm in the zone. Back to sewing on the weekend. Still trying to decide what colour to make the top of the bathhouse curtains. Red or bluw. I guess it'll come down to what linen I have.
Wednesday, January 19th, 2022 08:16 am (UTC)
Good that you're making progress on something you're enjoying (I presume you're enjoying the upgrading) - the weekend's not that far away and you'll be sewing again.
Wednesday, January 19th, 2022 09:13 am (UTC)
Oh I really do enjoy updating! It keeps me posting up new things I've learned, sometimes nicer pictures (or just rearranging, the page around) or adding decorative touches! Every now and then I need to update the menus, and it's a bit like rearranging the furniture or cleaning out the kitchen cupboards (which I also enjoy.) I do like a good declutter! It's also nice to do something while I think about the sewing.

Plus they look so GOOD afterwards, it's a real boost!
