Hello to all members, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

The sleeve seams are sewn up and the side seams are pinned ready to be sewn. When I say 'pinned', it's just two safety pins in each side so I can quickly work out where I'm going without all the tedious matching up of edges, which is already done.

I am working on my cross stitch gift for my sister. I am almost finished with one of four panels. Her birthday isn't until mid July so still on target.

My sons are out of school so it's craft time. We are working from a book called Star Wars Maker Lab. Older son is working on Anakin's Mechno-Arm and younger son on Death Star Tractor Beam. The latter required us doing paper mache, him for the first time and me for the first time in a long time. Messy!

Also, I want to mention a post pensnest did [https://pensnest.dreamwidth.org/705412.html]. It's getting a lot of varied and interesting responses. It's a question from reddit: help, my grandma made me a swastika-looking quilt that I don't feel comfortable with; what do I do with it? I thought it was interesting reading the different responses--from quilters and non-quilter alike.

Well, sewing up anyway. One more day and the pink sweater should be ready to wear!

Sounds like the cross stitch is going well and you have plenty of time to get it finished.

Star Wars crafting sounds fun, but yes, paper mache is very messy indeed. I haven't done it for years either, but it sticks in the memory >.<

I'll take a look at that post in a minute. Really would not want a swastika-looking quilt o_O

This week's progress is in purple. I'm aware I dropped some stitches, but it's also a smaller size yarn. I only realized it when I switched hooks and had a much easier time with it. I'm not planning on fixing it because I don't think it's too bad...and my sibling doesn't care. They just want the scarf, lol.

Well...that's...hmm. I think when I've seen that pattern the background blocks around the pinwheel were different colors and it did not stand out in that fashion.

I've mostly been doing food chores today, so I'm only just now getting to crafting.

To answer yesterday's question from badly_knitted, I think it will be a table runner. My mom was very impressed with the entrelac, I have extra of this yarn.

Yeah, I think someone in the comments mentioned it was a common pattern (which I agree, but the colour choice was unfortunate.

How awkward is that quilt image! At first I didn't see it but it was like one of those magic eye things: do you see a bunny or a lady in profile?
I've seen a lot of quilt designs (they used to do the national quilt awards at the trade shows I frequented, so you got to see all sorts of entries) but I've never seen one like that, at least done in so few colours as to make it look like something it isn't. Dear me!

I managed a little crafting this weekend. It was a bit cheating because I decided to make some mini cards (only 80x90) but they turned out okay. Some of my papers are actually better suited to smaller panels as they're too busy on larger cards, and they require less composition elements. Mind you, they still take almost as long to make!
Also, I promised to badly_knitted and wiseheart that I would post a picture of the mask I made years ago, so here it is. Just click on the thumbnail for the proper image.

Oh wow! I do wish I had those cards recently. I had to give a spate of thank you cards to all my sons teachers, bus driver, etc. It was harrowing trying to find the right thing.

I managed, er, three rows? During an hour-long K-drama episode (it was a watch party with my friend in Alaska, so the two of us constantly texting each other slowed me down, but either way it was a fun time).

Still have to find out if my camera and this mini laptop are compatible, otherwise I'll have to try to get my old laptop working enough to load pictures onto it and transfer them to a USB stick =/

Honestly there's nothing rocket sciency about any of it. Anyone could do the same with those materials. I just muddle through without having a clue or a plan until it comes together.
It's knitting I find full of wizardry. I've tried so many times but it's clearly not genetic. I just don't have the eye for it. I mess up even a simple knit purl stitch. I always drop stitches and wouldn't have a clue how to find my mistakes let alone fix them. A shame as I'd knit lots of things for myself if I could.

I hate paying the exorbitant price for those tacky printed cards in newsagents. Hallmark must make a killing for the cost to produce them.

Makes me wish you lived next door, maybe we could teach our skills to each other.

Then again, my sister is hopeless at knitting, always dropping or making stitches. I guess some people's hands just don't have the knack, which is sad.

One day I'll have to have another bash at card making. For now, I'm focused on knitting.

Good to know! I will try to prepare and ask you ahead of time. Yes, I paid something like $17 for 5 cards. But just because it was the end of the school year and one of the few times when I needed a lot of them at once. Because they aren't getting a gift, just gift cards, you know, or cash.
