Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

This Week's Question (courtesy of [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith): For those of us who do yarn crafts, what kinds of yarn do you prefer working with and why?

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

Between the High Holy Days and the crappy cold I had last week, things have been pretty slow. I did manage to bake some challah for Rosh Hashanah, but that's about it.

I'm just over halfway done with the baby blanket I was working on, but it's getting kind of monotonous, so I'm thinking of starting another project with a bit more complexity, so that I can switch between them depending on what I'm in the mood for. I bought some really lovely alpaca/silk yarn at the county fair in June, so I want to find something to use it for.

It's kind of an amber-gold color, very pretty and autumnal. It comes from a local alpaca farm run by really nice folks, I alsways make a point of buying from them when I go to the fair.

That must be a nice feeling. :)

Today I started a snowflake ornament, in white size 10 thread, as a test. The ornament is a cross between a snowflake and a poinsettia. It's 3D and PRETTY. If I can manage to do it, I'll make them in red for the nieces and nephews for this Christmas. I was going to make them gnomes, but the pattern and yarn didn't work well together. Plus gnomes are a lot more work than an ornament.

Then I did some knitting on the Central Park Hoodie. I started with a sleeve to use as a gauge swatch and am almost done with the ribbing. That means I can start cabling soon, fun!

Woohoo! Way to go! That's awesome.

Sorry for the awful cold! Hope you feel better soon. Way to go for baking for the holiday. (I totally failed to make any food for the mid-autumn festival, so you're ahead of me!)

I feel you on the monotony of a baby blanket. I fully support you doing something with your fancy yarn!

Oooh I am intrigued by the snowflake/poinsetta pattern. That sounds super pretty! I bet the nieces and nephews will love them!

Way to go working on the hoodie!

First Halloween costume hat is complete!

I have completed the second hat and sewn on 1/7 appliques (I still need to make the seventh one). There was no actual pattern for the second hat, so I've been engineering it as I go. I used one pattern (and tried it on Three, who was Unimpressed but it definitely fits her) for the hat, but all the other pieces I've been improvising, and I had to frog and redo the mini hat (gat) multiple times. Still, it's worked up pretty fast and I'm already eyeing a new project to make.

Thank you! I'm mostly over the cold now, and back to my hobbies again. I also found a pattern for a really cute top with a lacy yoke that I can make with my fancy yarn, so progress is happening. :-)

I hope you feel better soon.

Sometimes having project choices to switch back and forth from is just the thing.

The ornament sounds like it will be awesome.

Good luck!
