Check-In Post - April 18th 2025

Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

This Week's Question: Do you change crafts with the season or stick to the same crafts year round?

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

pretty much the same! I might choose to work on smaller projects in the summer months, but then again, I might not (I spent last summer under a blanket I was crocheting).

Yesterday was Stitch Club. I brought the mosaic cardi, and did two rows. I could have done more while there, but eh, was enjoying the conversation instead.

But really, not doing a lot of crafting right now. Unfortunately my depression has flared up and I'm not finding much joy in things. (I'm under the care of a psych and a therapist, so I'll get through this. Just, might not be fun for a while, sigh.)

I've finished my keychain! ...Even if, since I ended up getting a different keychain in the meantime, it ended up serving as a giant zipper pull tab on my new backpack.

Photo of a finished SAVE keychain. It is orange with golden thread for the letters, backed by felt and with a floral ribbon loop.

Put away the odds and bits of felt left over from this project into a scraps jar. Planning to eventually stuff some tiny plushies with them. I have no specific plans for a plushie now, but I'm 100% i will get to some eventually, given i adore plushies and making a tiny animal would probably make me explode with happiness.

Will probably put down the crafts for a few days at least and let my hands rest. The birds outside are chattering up a storm in this weather, so I might try to go birdwatching to get to know my neighbors just a little bit better, i think.

The bramble sounds like a real struggle.

I hope the needle not being in the magazine does not mean it is lurking now in your chair or somewhere else inconvenient.

Sounds like you had a good time at stitch club. Hang in there.

It's a good time to get to know birds, they have a lot to say right now.

Made another dishcloth today after doing my chores. Hopefully tomorrow I will get back to the doily.

I'm watching the last episode of the main Babylon 5 series right now. A couple more movies and Crusade to go.

Husband's surgery took me through a ton of it, though I missed chunks. He wanted the TV on solid those first couple days.

I had forgotten how at the end, they put up a thing as if it was a documentary, really laughed.

I had an... eventful day, to put it mildly. Still, I forced myself to cut out the outer layers of the little pincushions. So I'm fairly content with my achievements.

B5 is a great series! I'm a die-hard Trekkie, myself, but I still have it on videotape. Yes, I'm actually that old - I own a great deal of stuff on videotape. The official ones, mind you, not private recordings.

Thoughts

Today we hit Rural King for gardening supplies. Among the things I picked up was a bag of pea gravel, variously for garden use and for terrarium crafts as a drainage layer or building material. I'm wondering if I could build a little stone bridge or wishing well with the hot glue gun.

Pea gravel is small, roundish stones of different sizes and colors, roughly pea to marble size. That makes a tricky building material but it does resemble round fieldstones or river cobbles.

There's a nursery that sells various rocks, where I've already bought several that are roughly bowling ball size. I also got one hand-sized chip. But there are shards all over the ground. I'm tempted to ask if they could quote me a price for a bucket or so of miscellaneous shards.

Sorry you only got a bit of stitching done. That sounds like a really pretty project though! And kudos to you for getting some gardening in before the weather turned.

Understandably not a lot of crafting now. Sending positive vibes your way. Glad you could go to stitch club and have a good time enjoying conversation.

The keychain is lovely! Way to go! Definitely let your hands rest. And kudos to you for getting to know your neighbors! I don't know mine nearly as well as I should...
