Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

This Week's Question: Do you remember the first thing you made in school?

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

it's the last day of the month and I am AAAAAAAHHH!!! because it means the Nerdopolis round is ending. I did not do everything I wanted, as usual. Best laid plans, etc etc. First, I planned to make a Leprechaun Gnome, but that was taking too long, so then I was going to knit a little leprechaun toy. Nope, not enough time for that, either. I eventually banged out a coaster in greens.

The reason I had wanted to do a leprechaun was for a challenge on Authors From Around the World. Here is my write-up:

There was NO QUESTION who I’d choose for this challenge: Eoin Colfer, the Irish author behind the Artemis Fowl books. They are some of my absolute favorite books! As you might guess from his country of origin, the books feature clever twists on aspects of Irish mythology. For example, take the familiar Leprechaun. In the Artemis Fowl books, there is not Leprechauns as you might be familiar with, but LEPrecon, the reconnaissance team of the Lower Elements Police. As the series starts, we are introduced to a member of LEPrecon, Holly Short, in chapter 3, where there is the following description of the LEPrecon uniforms:

The fairy suited up, zipping the dull-green jumpsuit up to her chin and strapping on her helmet. LEPrecon uniforms were stylish these days. Not like that top-o’-the-morning costume the force had to wear back in the old days. Buckled shoes and knickerbockers! Honestly. No wonder leprechauns were such ridiculous figures in human folklore. Still, probably better that way. If the Mud People knew that the word “leprechaun” actually originated from LEPrecon, an elite branch of the Lower Elements Police, they’d probably take steps to stamp them out. Better to stay inconspicuous and let the humans have their stereotypes.

For this challenge, I made a coaster in the colors of the old LEPrecon uniforms. Holly sure wouldn’t be caught wearing these colors now!

I also bought yarn today, which might turn into last nephew's graduation blanket, but I have years to do that. Really, what I bought it for is this poncho:

the last thing I need is another big project, but my therapist is very fond of ponchos and got me itching to make one

The poncho looks like a lovely project. What colour yarn did you get for it (or the blanket)?

It’s a shame you didn’t get the time you needed to make a leprechaun.

Working on the cushion cover today - I’ve reached the two-sevenths completed. Edges are irritatingly difficult to manoeuvre the hook and yarn through.

The yarn's colorway is called Sugar Cookie, and indeed it's a light tan in color. So as a poncho, it will be a nice neutral, and would also make a handsome blanket for a young man.
