Check-In Post January 16th 2024

Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

This Week's Question: Looking back at last year, which of your completed projects (or WiPs) were you most pleased with?

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

Today I went to choir practice on a roundaway route: via a small shop that sells sewing supplies. It's been on sale for at least half a year, so I was pleasantly surprised to find it still open. So pleased that I spent an unreasonable amount of money on flower-shaped buttons, in various sizes and colours. I used up part of my stock for the songbook, so I needed replacements, but not so many replacements. But I thought I should use the chance as long as the shop is still there, right?

I also bought two iron-on ornaments: two different snowmen, both extremely cute. Why is it that the best Christmas stuff always shows up when Christmas is long over?

Today we had guests, so the day was also full of chores. No actual crafting done. Tomorrow. There's always tomorrow.

Glued the felt in the bottom of the dice tray today! I'd bought fabric glue thinking it would be less obvious than the superglue I used last time but it still looks pretty goopy. Maybe it'll dry clear, though. At any rate, once that's dry it's done!

Checking now despite the fact I haven't had time to do diddly squat yet.

The weekend was a bit of a beast, then when I went to catch up on internet stuff, the internet went out for about 14 1/2 hours and I'm not sure how long it's staying. The antenna TV is still out and the storm is moving in in such a way we are preparing to be without power.

That being said, I have stayed caught up with my decorate a bullet journal layout a day thing. It's just the last 4 days have only needed the date banners covered. I was able to use washi tape on one, but the others I have had to doodle over - diagonal stripes in the bullet journal colors, horizontal purple and green stripes for another, and I drew a bunch of stars on the last.

While I was waiting to see if the internet or TV would come back, I worked on that neon, Fluffable, animal thing. It was easy, but there is no way that would take anyone only an hour. Just stabbing the fluff into the foam form took me around 3. It could have used slightly more instructions and I ended up severely damaging part of mine (though you cannot see it through the fluff). I essentially have a neon stripped tribble, but with a face (and ears & a tail & glasses). It needs a bit more of a trim around the body, but still very cute.

As for the hat, I didn't work on it yesterday, but over the weekend, I got it to the 11 inches, I just need to do the 3 finishing rows. Then I can cast on the last hat of the set.

What am I most pleased with from last year? Probably that first shawl I did that ended up being as wide as the couch almost. I thought I was never going to finish it. It was a hell of a learning experience and oh so pretty.

A few more rows and my scarf with pink, white, lilac & light blue vertical stripes will be done--hopefully tonight, if not by the end of the week.

Last year I taught myself to do jacquard and tried my hand at a simple heart pattern. The first one turned out quite alright, the second one is a bit crooked but I think I know what I did wrong and how I can redo it better?
