Check-In Post January 15th 2024

Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

This Week's Question: Looking back at last year, which of your completed projects (or WiPs) were you most pleased with?

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

I intended to finish the next page of the songbook today, which would have been doable... in theory. But fate intervened (in the person of Mum) and I wasted my precious crafting hour(s) in the shops. I worked a bit on it in the commercial breaks of some crap telly we watched but couldn't finish it, of course. This frigging shopping tour threw back my work schedule by two days, as there's no way I can work on it tomorrow. We're going to have guests, plus I'll have choir practice, so no chance. :(

Haven't yet ordered the baby blanket yarn - a student broke my glasses, so I had to order new ones instead. Whee. But today I put the second coat of paint on the dice tray, finally, so as long as it looks good when it's dry, I'll glue in the felt next and it'll be ready for the D&D campaign I'm running for my students in a few weeks.

Even though I didn't finish it, I'm honestly proudest of the progress I made with the beach cover-up. It was a really ambitious jump and I still love it so far. I keep seeing it and being amazed that it's something I made.

I swore I wasn't going to take anything on my trip except the guinea pigs, and then this morning tried to start a crochet project out of nowhere, couldn't make it work, frogged it...and then tried to start a second embroidery piece, hated it, frogged it. I like the idea of it, though, and it's very tiny, so it's coming with me as a backup(?) to the guinea pigs.

I am making excellent progress on my sweater and hope I will have something I can wear by the weekend. Unless I get sidetracked. We'll see.

Of the things I made last year, the one I am most pleased with is definitely my wrap.

Not having a good few days (to give an idea in the last 6 days, two of which were 'weekend' and so technically days off, I've worked 2.5 days overtime for work). Last night I managed to sew one length of wool on the tapestry I'm working on and that was the first time since I last posted that I had made any progress at all but one length and I was too tired to continue (or to comment here!).

In terms of what I'm most proud of from last year, I did no crafting in the latter portion of the year, I can't remember exactly when I stopped, but I was trying to remember anything that I'd done that had gone well and I remembered doing some painting kits. I liked how relaxing they were, but also they were good kits and so the end results of most were pretty decent looking - I completed four paintings over a couple of months (I'm not sure now if the first was finished in 2022 or if I only did the first disaster one then, but the four completed successfully were an owl/bookshelf, a painting of Lady and the Tramp, one of Mickey and Minnie Mouse and one of Stitch from the movie Lilo & Stitch. For a 'non-artist' like me, I felt successful - I have some more to do and think that once I've made a bit more progress on some of the other outstanding and projects that are currently taking up lots of space, I might return to them to have another stint of painting.
