Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.
Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

Today's Question: No question today.

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

Your meeces will take over the world!

Hooray for meece and hedge progress!
Monday, October 17th, 2022 09:57 am (UTC)
Oh well done! Powering through it all!
Wednesday, October 19th, 2022 06:03 am (UTC)
It sounds like you are doing well.

Started the plaster this morning, ran out. I'd told husband there wasn't enough and "no we have tons!" I barely did half. He made a pickup order for a larger size at the hardware store and brought it on his lunch.

I'm having a cup of tea and then will do the rest. Not beating myself up too much about how perfect it has to be. It will be sanded a touch before painting anyway. I am not a professional. Also no matter what I do it will still be an improvement!

Also I found this huge hat pin stuck in a gap of the door trim. There are a ton of coat hooks in this area and the house was built in 1900.

That is one impressive hat pin! You ought to create something out of it one day.

We have a little pile of "things found around the house" and should definitely display them one day.

In general I have better spatial skills and better ability to read the packet. I'm very glad he would make the supply run. The weather went from "too hot to plaster" to "it's going to hard freeze in a couple days."

It's set for -5C on Tuesday. :/

It won't do it every night here either, but freeze nights pop up here and there. Then Thursday it will be 80F again.

Good luck with the rest of the plaster!

That hat pin is so cool.

It went decently, I'm happy with it. There's a wall upstairs that needs work, it will be so much easier than overhead!

going to reply to my own post, I am finished, it went okay! Doing this over stairs wasn't my favorite. There were a couple places it was easier to glob it on with my hand and then run the tool over it.

Wow! Amazing!
(Not for the first time am I really glad that this craft group encourages these kind of posts which are, strictly speaking, not craft. Oh wait, yes they are. That it craftmanship!!) :)

I'm looking at it this morning while drinking coffee and am even more pleased with how it turned out. Though I do see a couple small spots I need to fix up. There was so much damage in this one area I missed a couple less obvious bits.
Monday, October 17th, 2022 04:23 pm (UTC)
Congratulations to getting it done!
Monday, October 17th, 2022 09:58 am (UTC)
That is seriously cool!
Wednesday, October 19th, 2022 06:04 am (UTC)
Well done on your plastering. I have to say that hat pin looks positively lethal! A secret weapon of some kind! *grin*

Finally some craftiness! I've cut out the 'toppings' for the cupcakes - all 24 of them, since they are supposed to be double layered, all of the size of my thumbprint - temporarily fixed them to the cupcakes with double-sided tape and fixed the cupcakes to the page base. Now I have a general idea what the page will look like when finished. Until then, I 'only' have to sew on 78 beads (assuming I counted them together correctly in my head), 24 pieces of Velcro, cut out and sew on the numbers from 1-12 (very, very tiny ones - what a delight for my sausage fingers!) and finally put the whole thing together. That will be fun!

I'm also entertaining the idea of taking the coward's way and skip the proper binding of the planned transportation-themed quiet book. After all, the pages are made of solid felt, not of cloth, so edging them with blanket stitch ought to do the trick, too. I'll still have to do the spine of the book, but that's considerably less work. We'll see.

Oh, and the iPad mini has finally returned. Right now, it seems to be willing to connect to the Internet, so I'll have to take the promised photos tomorrow, before it changes its mind again. It's old, and there are lots of websites it refuses to connect to - since their move, DW is one of those. *sigh* So yeah, a new one will be inevitable at some point.

With the emphasis on "fiddly", I'm afraid...
Sunday, October 16th, 2022 09:03 pm (UTC)
That sounds like a lot of progress, well done!
Monday, October 17th, 2022 05:44 pm (UTC)
Thanks. It's really fussy work, and still in the early phases, but progress is progress.
Sunday, October 16th, 2022 09:06 pm (UTC)
I *may* have giggled in horror when you said how tiny those pieces are. Blanket stitch on felt sounds like a good compromise. And best wishes for the iPad cooperation!
Monday, October 17th, 2022 05:43 pm (UTC)
Thanks. Pics are coming up in the next check-in.
Monday, October 17th, 2022 09:58 am (UTC)
Gosh you really are a hive of activity!
Wednesday, October 19th, 2022 06:07 am (UTC)
Well done for your progress on the quiet books. The frustrations of technology - you have my sympathy. My Ipad (now about 8 years old so positively vintage!) seems to be getting very hot and crashing a lot when in use, so like you I'm presuming it's going to need replacing at some point *sigh*
Monday, October 17th, 2022 09:55 am (UTC)
I've done a few more buttonholes on my navy silk kirtle and have about 12 more to do down the front.
Monday, October 17th, 2022 11:46 am (UTC)
So many! Are they tiny too?
Wednesday, October 19th, 2022 06:07 am (UTC)
Well done - it will be worth it!
