Check-in post September 6 2022

Hello to all members, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

Note:/ I'm just jumping in for [personal profile] badly_knitted while she is having computer problems. Therefore the daily check-in posts might lack certain details. Please, bear with me, and happy crafting!

(Okay, for some reason my icon doesn't show up, but that isn't the main problem here, right?)

Thanks for doing this! My computer is working again, but for some reason I can't reply to your comment, I keep getting a page that tells me to confirm I'm human by completing a puzzle, I complete it, it tells me I'll be redirected, and I just get another puzzle, and another, and another... It's my own community, I'm logged in, and I'm not allowed access! I'm being driven mad!

It's scary, I don't know what's going on, but it's sort of a relief to know it's not just me and my computer. Must be something to do with dreamwidth's content migratuion away from cloudflare.

I had the icon issue earlier but they seem to be working now.

Glad to hear you're getting on well with more decorations!

We all need things like that. I'm tempted to knit more meeces.

I'm sure the icon issue will sort itself out. The other thing seems to have already been sorted.

Most of my creative energy of late has been in gardening and writing related tasks. But last night I did some cross stitch and tonight I made a little "about me" book for my son's new teacher. Photos and text and stickers and all of that. The night before it's due, because clearly I'm good example :P

I recently had the heartbreak of pulling out a wool jumper I knit for my son a just a few months ago and it had already been eaten by cloths moths. Moths in London are endemic, but I've lost way more knitwear to them since we moved to the countryside! It really discourages me from wanting to do woolly crafts.

I've seen some of your posts on GYWO, and gardening has been my main occupation too recently.

Last minute is better than not at all!

Oh, that's heartbreaking, I know what it's like though. Clothes moths are everywhere here too and I had to chuck out a lot of pure wool yarn. It's why I only use acrylic now. Cedar balls are supposed to discourage them though, so you could try those. They smell very nice, much better than mothballs.

Last night I started spreading around some moth killer/repellant papers in all the drawers and wardrobes, and hung a few in my craft room (so far hasn't been invaded, knock on wood). Hopefully it'll help.

I've thought about wool alternatives, but I *like* wool (I want to get sheep!) and acrylic isn't very nice for spinning ^_^

I hope you can get the moths under control so you can continue to use pure wool. It's better in a lot of ways, and obviously for someone who spins their own yarn there is nothing better than a proper fleece to work from. A herd of your own sheep would be cool, maybe one of the rarer breeds... I like sheep =)

We're only looking at maybe 3-ish sheep--enough to keep the pastures (about 5 acres total between them) from growing out of control but not overgraze them, and certainly that's more wool than I can spin in a year given recent lack of spinning!

I'm not that fussy about the breed, as long as they have a decent spinning fleece. I'll probably get some 'rescue' 'lawnmower' ewes since I have no interest in breeding, milk, or meat. Too much work at this stage of my life. I just want them to eat grass and get them sheared once a year XD

That sounds perfect! Keep the grass down, get fleece for spinning and for sale to other spinners, and have happy, rescued ewes enjoying their lives.

Hi!

I am a new member as of a few seconds ago.

I did work on some latch hooking (rug hooking, and it's of a few cacti in a pot or three) today at my occupational therapy session. I don't know why I find it easier to work on something where there are people around instead of 2 cats, but I do. Does anybody else have the same issue?

Hello, and welcome aboard, very happy to have you here!

I used to do some latch hook work, I have a mostly finished small rug somewhere but I ran out of rug wool. Yours sounds very cool, cacti are such fun.

I'll craft anywhere, with or without people, but as I live alone I'm mostly a solitary crafter. It can be a lot of fun crafting with like-minded people though.

I like both crafting in a group and solo. Sometimes I just want to have quite and focus on what I'm doing. Sometimes I like it to help dim the stimulation in a bigger group setting (I get overwhelmed easily). I used to run monthly crafting days at my home, but that was several years (and a few homes) ago. I'd like to get something going here again once we start meeting more people...

It's been forever. I am just whizzing by to say I am working on a cardigan for my kiddo for this winter.

Also I love your icon - and I have one of those sewing machines. :)

I'm still mid move but I managed about a line and a half of stitching today while waiting for things to happen. Someday soon I will have time again!

Once the move is completed and you're unpacked you'll be able to get back to crafting. In the meantime, grab those spare moments!
