Check-In Post March 11th 2022

Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

Today's Question: No question today.

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

You make excellent progress. Do you already have plans for the next project?

I've made 4 page bases, 2-2 for the respective quiet books. They are the double pages with the bear and the beehive. I've sewn on the green stripes representing grass, decorated the beehives with flowers, gave the bears eyes and glued on the vertical brown stripes that will serve as holders for the honey pots. More Velcro in the immediate future. *sigh*

Of course, I still have to make the bees, to finish the bears themselves and to sew on the beehives once the bands and loops for the bees are fastened, so there is a lot of work on these pages yet, but at least the bases are done.

Feeling pretty happy with the background roses. In between paint drying and drawing them on, I've machine sewed a kirtle, fitted it and am now up to the hand finishing. It's not for a re-enactor, so quick and easy to this point is super-cool with me.

It sounds like a lot but it isn't, not really. Making a quiet book is incredibly time-consuming, due to the number of minute details.

I hope it will be. The really complicated part is just coming.

Annoying, but fortunately, we are old enough to click on the link. ;)
BTW, will there be a photo of the kirtle, too?

Thank you. Pink is Mini Hobbit's favourite colour.

Oh for sure! It's made from a not-proper fabric for my stallholder helper so it's not going to be my usual standard. Hand finished though so it will be nice, and it can be a loaner dress for future friends too.

I will post photos soon, I promise. A kirtle is just the medieval name for the most common of dresses in the 14th century. A lot like a sundress with long sleeves. Usually no waist and it's fairly form fitting through the torso. Some button up, others lace at the front or side. I'm much quicker at eyelets than buttonholes and they're very sturdy bust support once laced.
