After a few days mostly off of crafting to play games obsessively, I am back! That's because the Olympics started, and with it, the Ravellenic Games on Ravelry. I usually go overboard during the Games, doing many projects. I'm unsure how much I'll get done this time because my hands/wrist can't take as much, but I'll do as much as I can manage.
Today was rather busy so I didn't get to do as much as hoped, but I did start my Rosenmalva, a crocheted summer v-neck tee. I started with a D hook, as my swatch told me I got gauge with that. Six rows in, I remarked to myself, "This is looking awfully wide". Measured, and it was 30". Now, I'm fat, and this top does have 4-6 inches of positive ease built in, but the size I was doing is supposed to be 55.25" circumference, so about 27" for the front. So I checked my gauge on the piece and sure enough, it was off -- I was supposed to have 18 stitches in 4", and I had only 16".
So I started over with a second ball of yarn, and a C hook. Five rows in, and it's 26". Hmm. My gauge might be too tight now. The hooks are different materials and have different grips, so that could really explain why my gauge changed a lot. Anyway, I'm sleeping on it, but my tentative plan right now is to continue with the C hook and just have less positive ease, hoping it will fit okay.
So I did about 11 rows total today at 117 stitches per row. Which isn't bad at all given how busy I was. It's unfortunate six of those rows will be frogged eventually but better I figured out now it was going wrong than when I was almost done with the piece.
