Be careful with your wrist! Gentle exercise is good, but crochet is a real workout and you might need another week or two of gentle exercise to build the strength up. You don't want to undo whatever good the surgery did.

That shawl sounds like it was tricky in unexpected ways! Kudos for finishing it despite all the frogging.
